ED I Notification

I just called the office of admissions at CMU. The woman said that they are going to send ALL the letters out tomorrow(12/15). Decision will be posted online three days after the letters are out (12/18). I believe most of u guys will get the letter on Saturday 12/17. Be patient and relax. Good luck to you all!!!

BTW, anyone applied to IS program?

OMG, are you serious?? ugh, that is sooo annoying. I have a deadline for a U of Ill app TOMORROW. >_<

whaaaaaaaaat???? So we'll find out in another 3 days? Anticipation bites.

Just out of curiosity, was anyone planning on taking advantage of another school's ED II in case they didn't get into cmu ED I?

Someone I know says already heard back, are you sure they're not in the mail already?

I'm afraid that the letters are not sent to us yet...just wait 3 or 4 more days. I'm nervous too.

Relax...

I wish everyone get a big fat letter!

R U SERIOUS???
I did not call but i emailed the admission office and he said that all the mail was sent on Monday night/Tuesday morning...whats wrong??

kanagawajiin, same here. my admin officer called me and told me that it was sent tuesday morning. should be here tomorrow. :) gl guys!

they mail them in seperate batches, so don't worry. i remember this time of year when everyone applied... just breathe and stop worrying about everything. you'll know soon enough. even if you dont get in EDI, theres always re-evaluation/regular decision... its not so bad. and plus, im sure all of you have fall finals, so focus focus focus!! dont loose focus after you get in tho... bad idea. enough of my rambling. good luck to all of you! keep me updated!

Two of my friends from NJ received their CMU decisions yesterday afternoon. One had applied to the School of Design (like me) and the other to Tepper. Both were rejected.

I'm very concerned about the SoD's decision. That girl and I both did pre-college together this past summer, and she'd received better evaluations than I had. My academics and extra-curriculars are very strong, but I'm pretty sure my portfolio's not that great, and the SoD counts these 50/50.

Two other pre-college friends also applied ED. One lives in NJ and the other lives in Ohio but neither have heard anything yet.

Now, the School of Design, according to their website, can take until January 15th instead of the standard December 15th to send out ED decision letters. So I e-mailed the Admissions office the day before yesterday with the following message:

Hello,

I applied ED to the School of Design. I heard that decisions have already gone out for ED applicants and can be expected this week. Does this include the Design applicants or will we have to wait until January 15 like their website says?

Thanks in advance

Got this response yesterday afternoon:

Thanks for your e-mail message to the Carnegie Mellon University Office of Admission.

Your decision letter mailed on December 13. You should be receiving it in the next week or so. You can also view the decision on-line using your Admission ID number approximately five days after the decision letter was mailed.

Best regards from Carnegie Mellon's Office of Admission.

Since I live in Texas, I'm assuming that means it'll be here today or tomorrow (!).

I hope the January 15th thing doesn't mean that they do it like a process of elimination and send out all the rejections first, because that means I'm pretty much screwed. There is also NO DEFERRAL for the School of Design. D:!

majorly freaking out I'm so scaredddd!

Shoot, does that mean people who are receiving letters today are all rejected? like MIT??

I don't /think/ so. At least not for the other schools. They're required to get back to you by/around December 15th. If you get your letter a day ahead of the rest, I don't think that means you've been rejected. They probably send the letters out by region or school, is what I'm guessing.

But I'm thinking, for me, with the School of Design, if they'd been uncertain whether I am what they want or not, they could've waited with sending me a decision because they can take until January 15th to get back to people. Which means that if they're already getting back to me now, that either means they were very sure I am what they want, or very sure that I'm not what they want. Since I don't think my portfolio was super, I'm betting that means I'm getting rejected. Which is supremely depressing.

I don't know. I guess around 3 PM today when the mail arrives will be the moment of truth. =o!

Someone who applied to the School of Design got rejected from our school as well. However, I applied to Tepper and have not gotten word back. So, it's not the school/region mailing theory. This has been the longest day ever. Tomorrow will be even worse.

I Got In! :)

wow congrats!!! That's awesome.

Just out of curiosity, was it a large package? or are they just sending out acceptance letters?

So perhaps they did send out the rejections first? ...I really wish I knew more people who applied ED.

My other NJ and Ohio friends from pre-college and I are also still waiting. No mail today! Perhaps it is a good sign. Or not.

Ditto njcarpetbagger: Congrats!! (Which school?) And was it a big package?

No mail today.
Congrats ny12187, I knew you were going to get in.

no mail either. ARGH

Maybe they are just doing it by the schools? I have only heard from School of Design people on this forum. I already know I got accepted, but I have yet to recieve mail...

ny12187: Congratulations!!

I called the office of admissions again this afternoon. she said that ALL letters were sent!!

Decisions will be posted online on 12/18!!

Good luck!!

No, we have also heard from Tepper and MCS people who have gotten their decisions. Anyway, it's hard to judge because there are so few CMU ED applicants represented on here.

How do you know you got accepted and to which school??
