Ok, now that I have submitted my application, it's time for the long and often miserable wait... haha... anyway, just want to know... what is there to do at Kenyon other than drinking? List it out!!! Yeah, and I am also curious to know how would the international students feel during breaks like Thanksgiving or Christmas season... when the whole campus will turn gloomy, cold, and lifeless with most students going home for celebrations - am I correct? Correct me if I am wrong... =) Sorry, I am getting a bit high now that I have finished my application!

First of all, most internationals go home for Christmas break (we have a month after all). I've heard of some who go home for Thanksgiving too, but others stay. There are always people on the Kenyon campus. Many sports teams are required to be here for most of the breaks. Perhaps Chochu or another international can comment more.

Things to do other than drink are infinite. What do you do at home when you aren't drinking? You can pretty much do that at Kenyon too.

Here is a partial list:
-go to a play (there are at least 2-3 a month)
-go to a concert(either school groups or bands brought in by Social Board)
-go to one of the many guest speakers Kenyon brings in (this week--the head of the NAACP)
-go to a free movie (more of the artsy movies sponsored by Kenyon Film Society)
-go to a $2 movie at the Mt. Vernon theater (new movies)
-go on one of the many off campus trips (zoo, mall, apple picking, ice skating, etc)
-go to a dance/festival (Diwali, Snow Ball, Philander's Phling)
-take craft classes at the craft center
-take aerobics/yoga/kickboxing/etc at the athletic center
-go to a comedy show (either campus groups or outside comedians)
-the list goes on and on...

I am on Social Board which plans many events both on and off campus that are available to students at little or no cost. Let me know if you have more questions!

i stayed here for thanksgiving and will be staying here for christmas as well. however, many other international students are going home for the winter.
thanksgiving break was simply great: and i do not say that to make myself feel better. firstly, thanksgiving and christmas do not have any meaning to me besides that they are holidays here so i do not really miss out that much. the break was a great time to get some rest. i had been invited by a couple of friends from Kenyon to join them for thanksgiving but i did not go because i really wanted some time to rest and do nothing.
over winter, i m going to (hopefully) work on campus itself. i know of at least three other international students. i have to admit that the campus does get a little lonely with very few people. i have always been a social person, if i may, and i like to hang out with a lot of people all the time but these rare breaks give me some important time to think about a lot of things and put them in perspective. more importantly, they also give me time to lie lazy and waste myself. i think the winter might be a little long for that so i am going to visit friends or do sth like that on the last week of winter...
and of course...with the blessings of technology (aim)...all my friends are just a click away!

adding to that list of things to do besides drink:
-not drink
-gameroom
-hang out with friends
-watch movies
-play freaking weird board games that everyone hates but still wants to play (me included)
-go to a party and watch the drunk do intelligent stuff
more to follow, when i think of them...

You can also always go into Columbus and see a game, go to the ballet, shop, go to the zoo, and other city type things. Only an hour away!

other things to do at Kenyon besides drink:
-go the pet shop in Mount V and play with puppies
-get super involved in theater/dance/music and have rehearsal and shows every night
-have a bonfire at the BFEC
-rent Weaver and cook a good meal with friends
-explore the many cemetaries around Kenyon at night
-explore super walmart (loads of cheap crap 24/7!)
-find the saunas in Ernst (or in the new KAC)
-take a swim in the Kokosing or pool

wow kc_lady! Your suggestions are really just different! I would really like to take a swim in the kokosing! I think the river must be really amazing! Yes, and I like puppies and what's weaver by the way? BBQ pit?

By the way, I have just received an email from the admission office saying that my counselor report is missing when she has sent it in long ago! I am really getting worried, especially when my high school now closes for the long long holiday break and my guidance counselor seems to be on leave... I will try hard to contact her though!

You can also go watch some of the dual swim meets (we have some of the top swimmers in the country in D3) and other sporting events at the new recreation center that will be opening up next semester. Or work out at the rec center on your own with a buddy! I hear that the place is gonna have plenty of room now for the non-varsity athete. The center is sure to attract better athletes to help the school have better teams that will be fun to watch.

Weaver is a nice little cottage that you can rent out. They have a full kitchen and a little patio that I believe has a grill...

What about the Men's Basketball Team? Does anyone watch their games? How do they play :)? I'm pretty interested in learning about that.

I am sorry ShtekmaN, but I really have no idea on Kenyon's Basketball Team. Perhaps you can check out the Athletics page on Kenyon's website.

To all prospective students out there!! Be sure to check out the video at the following website: http://livefromthehill.kenyon.edu!! And do check out the Kenyon songs esp Philander Chase towards the end of the conversation with the President! omg, it's sooo funny!!! smoked the what??

And can someone please enlighten me? What has ninety-nine got to do with Kenyon??? Tell me more!!! Thanks!

During freshman orientation they told us that song was originally written/sung by the class of 1899. I don't know for sure though :)

Aww cool video! Makes me hope even more that I'm accepted ED.

QuakerOaties: Precisely!!! The last part especially touched me: Tell others more about Kenyon, be it your coworker, prospective students and do something silly like wearing a kenyon sweater or cap during working out!

And Kokosing Farewell was such a beautiful and touching song!! I am really glad to see that Kenyon has made such vast improvements over the past few years, from recruiting more URMs to improving the facilities on campus!

Does anyone have any idea of how many ED applications Kenyon received and when they let you know? Thanks.

^ No idea how many they received (hopefully the same or less than last year!) but I was told to expect notification on the 20th. Its a shame it's not the 15th since I won't be able to celebrate with my parents (That is, if accepted) on the 20th =(

5 more days to notification day!!! Keep your hopes high everyone!!! And QuakerOaties, well, there's still CCers to celebrate with you, although it's definitely different from celebrating with your parents! :)

I called today, and the office lady told me the director said they will be mailing the admission letters on the 20th. I asked her if that means we'll be getting the letters around Christmas, and she said yes.

I am getting more and more anxious because everyone is getting deferred left and right. My GC told me today that she "doesn't know" my chances but that I "do have a chance".

Wow, that sounds promising. I'm not holding my breath for an acceptance letter, that's all I'm saying. V___V
