I've sent in my ED I app and am eagerly awaiting a decision in about a month. Anyone else applying ED I?

the toad's son applied ED.

we're from a state that is about 12 hours by car. his hs has only had 3 kids apply in the past 6 years. they practice grade deflation at his hs so we'll see what kind of impact that has. the school is the toughest in the region--but I don't know if it's well known at W&L as it is at other schools.

he's a sports maniac. don't know what the recruiting aspect is at W&L but has sent a tape to the coach. maybe play some other sports also if he gets in.

so now the wait starts. i wish ED decisions would just be mailed when the decision is made rather than all at the same time.

I doubt that anyone from my school has applied to W&L before and I'm not really sure if that will hurt or help me. I think my stats are fine, my grades junior year are just not quite up to par with fresh and soph years so I am worried about getting defferred to RD. But we'll wait and see.

if your sat IIs corresponded to your SATs (which were just fine) you should be admitted. those people who said your ECs were weak were out of their minds.
you have as good a chance as everyone else. good mix of student involvement and that seems important to a small school. i think it's less of a chance for those who bury their noses in the books studying like robots with no ECs. if you look at scattergrams you get a fairly decent idea of the student they admit.

wlu seems to get a good deal of self selection by its admit pool. the interview element seems to basically seal the deal to make sure that the candidate is a good fit.

There have to be at least a few more people applying EDI...post if you are.

My daughter applied ED1!

T-9.

You would think as a parent you wouldn't count the days.

Thanks for bball, exams, winter dance, and all the rest to take the mind off a looming decision.

It is hard to not be excited for my daughter and feel some of her enthusiasm for W&L. It really just felt so right to her when we were on campus. I also think that some of the kids who go EDl kinda have their hearts set on going to their school wherever that might be. My daughter seems to be qualified to get in......BUT you never know. We go to a school that has made a point to lower everyones expectations this year. She is counting down at school and I'm just here doing it. I hope she gets in. We will have a very sad winter break if she doesn't.

I must also note that she does have several other schools that would make her happy if she doesn't get into W&L. Her high school GC has helped her research schools quite a bit. I hope that all the EDl seniors have back up schools thought out just in case they don't get into their EDl school.

Just out of curiousity, did all you ED kids apply to other schools since the ED notification is so late OR do all your backup choices have Jan 1 deadlines and you're just holding off?

5 regular admits all sent. 5 outstanding ready to go. 1 rolling admit--admitted. It will be wild since the wnl letter won't get to flyover country until Dec 22 probably, leaving us 10 days to react and cope. I don't want to listen how life is over if not admitted. S can't write/type due to bball injury yesterday--looks like a rotator cuff. shouldve been a fisticuff with the opposition.

HS is furious over all the apps. Charging us additional money. I believe they're ignoring the reality of competitive admissions due to the echo baby boom and just ignoring them.

aint life great?

Well I applied to my state school (Maryland) already because the priority deadline is december 1. I am about to send out the Sewanee app because it's due by the 9th. All of my others are commonapp except UVA and Georgetown, so those are ready and the commonapp is ready too. I've requested scores and done everything else too, basically I am just waiting to see if I get in so that I don't lose hundreds in application fees.

Does anyone know when the letters were sent out in past years? I'm in Maryland so hopefully it shouldn't take too long.

My kid was RD and barely made a decision before May 1! Although now, she can't see college life other than as a General...

So I'm asking this in the name of the sibling:

Dumb question 2.

Did your school give you a hassle about sending out additional apps since technically you are not "supposed to" when doing ED?

My daughter applied for several scholarships and the applications were due Dec. 1st or the 15th even though they aren't ED applications. She still has 2 or three schools that she'll finish the paper work on at the end of Dec. if she needs to. I think it is all fair because the other schools are not EDl. If she gets in to W&L she will just need to withdraw her name.

mother--

I believe that you are not to apply ED anywhere else but there is no restriction of RD at other schools. Otherwise the school's notification would be unreasonable for the student and unduly harsh for all involved.

bmulez--make ssure you visit Sewanee before deciding to go. It is very very very remote. much more so than wnl. there is no town like lexington

Thanks Musictoad--

I seriously doubt I would end up going there I just needed a few places where I could have a reasonable chance for merit aid and weren't my local state school. I am applying to a lot of colleges, a lot of things happened with my family at the end of the year last year and during the summer that made extensive visiting impossible. So I know I love WnL and am really hoping that works out, if not I'm applying to 11 or 12 other places (I know thats rediculous) and am bound to get into at least 1 I will be happy at. I am tired of the waiting I want it to be the 15th-22nd.

Got it! What you all wrote makes perfect sense! :)

Good luck to all of you!!! The waiting is the worst.

just noticed a new common data set and enrollment data posted for the 2006.

ED numbers not posted for 2006 as in years past. in 2005 there was a drop from the previous year of almost 20%.
