xcrunner0401 random question (simply cuz I haven’t received anything yet and I’m nervousss lol) what did you receive in the envelope? I know they send a personalized acceptance letter in a folder or something but did you get anything else besides that?

Fixed my post below:

The acceptance rate for ED2 looks to be about 18%. There were 200 ED2 applications submitted (710 total ED applications - 510 ED1 applications = 200 ED2 applications). There were 36 ED2 acceptances (220 total ED acceptances - 184 ED1 acceptances = 36 ED2 acceptances). 36 ED2 acceptances/200 ED2 applications = 18%. It’s about the same as Bowdoin’s overall acceptance rate was last year but it is a much lower acceptance rate than for ED1 (36%).

deferred/… does anyone know if I even have a chance to get accepted in the regular decision round? i cant see myself anywhere but bowdoin and i really want to do whatever i can to get in.

I got in EDII! I’m so excited, happy, and thankful to have been accepted! Next year, and the next four years for that matter, are going to be the best years of my life! I can’t wait! BOWDOIN '14!

On the article released last week, the first sentece said “The January 1 deadline for both Early Decision II (ED II) and regular decision yielded 6,010 applications: a 1 percent rise over last year’s 5,939 applications.” Later it said that there were 5,300 RD applicants. I guess it was just a mistake on their part.

Either way, I’m thrilled to have been accepted!

Congratulations guys! I’m a Freshman at Bowdoin, and seeing as how one of my prospective students whom I hosted (xcrunner0401 I believe:P) got into Bowdoin EDII, I thought I would check up on how the College Confidential crew was doing. I was certainly on this website every day (practically every hour actually) during the application process last year, so I know how relieved I was for it to be over. To those who didn’t get in, don’t worry. Everyone who applies to Bowdoin is amazing, so it’s incredibly difficult to choose the admits I’m sure. You’ll all wind up where you are supposed to, and once there, you will flourish. And to the recent admits, if you have any questions or anything, feel free to shoot me an email and I can try to answer them. jfrancke@bowdoin.edu See you guys next year!

xcrunner0401 – When the mail finally came, between snow storms, the large Bowdoin envelope S was hoping for arrived. He’s very happy.

that is very good to hear! congratulations.

I just heard that I got into Bowdoin EDII!!! SO excited!!!

Can you guys post stats? I’m probably applying EDII possibly EDI next year so I wanna see what you guys are like!
So does Bowdoin not consider SAT scores important? I feel like I have everything but that >.<. I’m gonna take the ACT and see how that goes too.

Called admissions since I havnt gotten my letter and they send me an email with an acceptance! so happy

hopefullybrown – I think more than 70% of Bowdoin’s applicants submit their test scores, and if they’re submitted, they’re used in the admissions process. S, a white male from NJ, attends a small well-regarded private HS (fewer than 100 in each grade) that sends many graduates to Ivies (15-20%) and other top schools every year. No class rank or GPA calculated. S was on Honors list (grades B+ or above) throughout and majority of his classes were accelerated, honors or AP. He submitted his SAT and ACT scores. ACT a 30 and SATs ranging from 720-760. ECs: Varsity sports, V captain, Disciplinary Board head, literary magazine editor, published writer, writing mentor. Hook: recruited athlete (on coach’s list, but not a slot).

From what I’ve seen posted on CC and what I know about students from S’s school who’ve applied to Bowdoin (most without success), S’s grades, even though honors level and in the right kinds of courses, probably would be considered the weakness in his application. So, keep your grades up!

uezibe and modernanarchist, can you guys post stats and hooks (if any)? Thnks.

I’d prefer not to post too detailed stats but I had 33 ACT, top 20 percent rank, grades kinda below average.

As for hooks : National Hispanic Scholar. Male? (Dunno the male/female ratio). From the West so that looks good too.

Still, my application was lacking in GPA and I pretty much know I got in by my supplement and essay. I have a unique story and a few EC’s that set me apart. The supplement was my best out of over a dozen and is definitely one of the best pieces I’ve written.

I had 2110 SAT, low grades beginning of highschool but steady improvement to A’s since then. No rank at my school (quaker).

Hooks: African American, male, spent a year in france last year, national achievement finalist.

I feel like my essays were strong, and I know my teacher recs were good.

sry, semifinalist
