wow we have really similar stats haha. except for my gpa is much lower. i also wrote about my parents immigration and its effect on me haha. i’m also from illinois! looking to major in bio too. I’d say you have a good chance with all your ECs. but what do i know, i havent applied yet lol. good luck though!

Where did your parents immigrate from?

zanyyall, in my judgment, you have a good chance at being accepted. Your ACT score of 31 is within the Emory middle 50% of admitted students. I’m not sure what your unweighted GPA is, but I’m guessing that when Emory recalculates it, it’s probably close to, or within, the middle 50%.

Your ECs look to be fine. Applying EDII will help, as it covers the demonstrated interest base. With a good/different essay and good/strong recommendations along with your other qualifications, my guess is that you will be accepted. Good luck!

By the way, Emory offers an Irish studies minor. If you’re considering Biology and Engineering, you probably won’t have time to fit it into your schedule, but I thought that I’d mention it.

Emory academic profile of admitted students 2010:
Academics - Admitted Students
Average GPA, middle 50% 3.74 - 3.99 / 4.0 unweighted scale
SAT verbal, middle 50% 640–740
SAT math, middle 50% 650–760
SAT writing, middle: 650-750
SAT total, middle 50% 1950–2250
ACT, middle 50% 30–33

Your academics are strong and definitely within the Emory range. Make sure you write good essays, and get recommendations from at least 2 teachers. Emory is also big on “demonstrated interest.” Make sure you check all boxes that apply in the supplement section. (There is a section that askes in what ways have you contacted Emory, campus visits, website visit, contact with current students, etc…)

I think you have a great shot as long as you write good essays, get recommendations, and show interest.

Best of Luck

Hey, why must I get recs from 2 teachers? I thought admission requirements only require 1?

@citylife, mine or the OP’s?

@TAHUNGANH, true only one is required, but IMO it’d be to your advantage to do two. I don’t think it’ll hurt you if you do only one, just that I think two give a better overall picture of you…

@begoodperson:
Actually emory requires none, just for your information.
But true, 2 good ones would be nice :D
