ED II: how much of a difference?

I am considering applying ED II. I am fairly certain I would like to go to either Brown or Wesleyan, and my pending semester grades might easily disqualify me from the former. I have normal SATs for both schools and consider myself a good match in all areas. I also have legacies at both schools. I am wondering if I would be much less likely to get in if I applied regular to Wesleyan, because I am not sure I want to go there and would like to have time to visit these places overnight.

Also, someone from my school was deferred ED I and is applying ED II. She doesn't have legacy, but we're the only people applying to Wes from my school, which has a very good reputation and usually has at least one person go to every top school.

Your chances improve significantly if you apply EDII as opposed to regular, and the difference is probably even more pronounced than at some other schools. 39% of the class of '09 were ED kids (either I or II). The school has an overall selectivity of 28%, but that INCLUDES the forty-something% rate of admission for ED kids. You could probably figure out the exact numbers with that information if you wanted to... This pdf file has some other interesting statistics about the class of '09 http://www.wesleyan.edu/admission/Profile100105.pdf

That being said, it's a bad idea to apply ED II for the chances game alone. If you got into Brown, would you prefer to go there? If there's a chance, are you sure you want to give that up and commit to going to Wesleyan if you got in? I applied ED and never looked back (well, maybe a few times - what if...), but it's not the right choice for everyone.
