I am an ED II applicant. My school will not complete the first semester of study until January 25th; thus, I will not be able to send my first semester grades to Tufts to be included in the evaluation of my application until at least February 1st, by which time decisions will likely have already been made.
Should I send my first quarter marks instead? Our term ended on October 19th, butI think that they will be an asset to the academic evaluation of my application.
Please let me know if I can send a copy of my report card or an official document from my school records office, and if so, if I should fax or mail them to the admissions office.
Thanks :)

I also applied ED II and have the same situation, except my semester ends the 17th. Then it takes time (3-5 days) to get the transcript ordered and what not, but I hadn't considered faxing it over. That would get the report cards there much quicker, so if anything you should do that (if it's okay with the admissions office). Hopefully Didactic Dan will make his comments on this issue.

I think in both our cases it's worth a shot. It certainly will not hurt you if your grades are good!

Send your first quarter marks, but do what you can to get us your semester grades as quickly as possible. Fax or mail works, but fax is (obviously) faster.

If you know what your semester grades are, but your school can't send the official report until after we would need it - this happens mostly for legitimate bureaucratic reasons - you can send in an 'unofficial' report. If that means that you ask your teachers for your grades a little early and then fax in the list yourself, then do that. We will, obviously, check the grades you give against the Official grade report when it comes in, and if anything is amiss, that would be bad. (I say that because I have to, not because I think youd do that.) If you can only get us a couple of classes grades, then do that. Anything is better than nothing and the more you can give the better.

This is similar to what we do with the testing you would list on the common app; it acts as a placeholder until we get the official report. Our stance is: Trust, but verify.

Oh, so it would be just fine for me to fax over a printout of my grades from my school's online gradebook after my midterm exams finish next week? If yes, i'll do one better than that and hand-deliver them to the Office of Admissions when I come to visit Tufts next Thursday or Friday. =)

Most Correct!

How much do first semester grades count? I have really excelled this year so far (4.2 Weighted), but I have not done as well my previous years. I hope Tufts will look at these grades with emphasis because I have matured a great deal over the past year. Anyone know the how important the first semester grades are?
