ED II: Will I get in?!

hey!
i'm pretty sure i'm applying EDII, and my scores are
SAT 2060/1350
620 reading, 730 math, 710 writing
SAT II's: Math I 750, Math II- 740, waiting for Physics and Spanish
GPA: 3.6 uw (it's not so great)
AP: Macroeconomics Jr year - 4
this year, 5 APs: Physics, AB Calc, English, Spanish, and Chem

i go to a medium sized school in PA, 300 kids in my graduating class, and my school doesn't rank, but im probably in the top 25-50 kids, i'm guessing

I'm the president of Key Club for the second year in a row this year, Secretary of another service club, my youth club coordinator (I'm a Muslim), yearbook editor, radnorite (school newspaper) writer, I've played the violin for 6 years now, currently playing in our Honors Orchestra, I sing in our Honors Chorus along with an exclusive girls' chorus after school. I'm also a long jumper for track and field.

I was born in Pakistan and I can speak 3 or so languages fluently and understand 2 or 3 others. I've pretty much been raised in the United States, but I have family in Pakistan, and I've gone back to visit a few times. My essay is actually about my parents' struggle to bring my brothers and me to the US and how my mother sacrificed her career to raise us. I also think that my recommendations will be pretty solid.

Do you think I have a good chance of getting into Emory ED II?
I've visited Emory twice (its 13 hours away from me!) The second time, I spent 2 days and nights at Emory on an overnight visit, and I attended organic chemistry and calc 200. I also spoke to an Admissions officer about my SAT scores and the like.

Please let me know if you think I'll be able to get in! I'm so stressed out, and I really want to go to Emory because it's my first choice.
Thanks!

u have a good chance defintly. esp because ur different with ur pakistanian heritage. and ur multi-lingual. looks great for college.

You have a fair shot. Definitely not a shoo-in, but worth it to apply.

From what I've heard, Emory places a lot of importance on GPA.

thanks for your responses! I'm really stressed that my GPA isn't good enough, but most other kids from my school that got in had 3.4's (avg) as their unweighted GPAs on a 4.0 scale, so hopefully mines not too bad

hey, any more responses? as the decision date gets closer, I'm becoming more nervous :(

whats your class rank?

my school doesn't rank :(
so im not sure, but i think im in the top 20% ? which probably isnt too great, but i got to a really competetive school and have taken the most challenging courses

you don't have to convince me how good you are, i'm not the admin. I just want you to know that the avearage GPA of students who were accepted is 3.75. 3.6 is very good if are top 10%. However, these are just facts i'm telling you. I know personally many people who got in with 3.5s and 1200s SAT scores. Good Luck

oh and make sure your essay reveal something about you and not about your parents' struggle and your mom's sacrifice.

right, thanks a bunch!
and thats what i did with my essay, and i actually took a creative approach to my "why emory" essay, so hopefully that'll help my application. also, betterday, i have another question for you or anyone else reading this blog. i got a notice from emory today that early decision to emory restricts people from applying to other schools (obviously), but i've also heard about several people that applied to emory EDII because they didn't get into other schools early decision or early action. i'm not doing this, but do you know if the office of admissions is aware of this? is it allowed? thanks a bunch for your advice and help!

yes they know, and yes it's allowed. =)
EDII is kind of a chance for peopel who were on border
but not SURE about wanting Emory until later (cause Nov. 1 is pretty
early for a lot of people) and also for people who do say...early action
to Stanford or ED to some other ivy...if they get rejected, they could then
roll over to 2nd choice - say emory. it's fine...ed means you have to go
there so I don't think emory/schools minds too much.

ohh okay, kewl. and the not sure about wanting emory until later was TOTALLY me, but now my heart's set on it :P

=) in that case - best of luck! I have a friend who I'm hoping will get in EDII as well...though his SAT scores and...just about everything are on the low end. :)

I would say that Emory is a solid match for you. I would say you're probably accepted, but it would not surprise me if you were deferred or rejected.

"but it would not surprise me if you were deferred or rejected."

sorry sjessani, this is unrelated, but phony, does Emory defer in EDII? when reading old EDI threads I didn't see anything about anyone being deferred so do they just not do it?

Either defrred or rejected, I'd say if you're not good enough to get accepted ED, then you are probably not good enough to get in RD.

Here's what the website says:
"The possible decisions resulting from an early decision application are: acceptance, deferral to Regular Decision (ED I), wait list (ED II), or denial."

I meant wait list.

I remember hearing something from an Emory infosession about trying to avoid deferring at all costs. I think it is really rare for any of the ED to be not accepted/rejected on the first notification. And as far as I remember, I haven't heard of any EDIers this year who were deferred.

ok, thanks for clearing that up guys.
