ED Information....

I wonder if any accepted students who got in ED or were deferred ED and later admitted would be willing to post their STATS for others. Also, if you are an athlete, minority, or have another distingishing factor (I guess I am talking about a "hook") and are willing to post, it would be very much appreciated. I LOVE Trinity and can't wait to show it to my D, but I am afraid it will be a real reach for her. Thanks in advance.

bump.... Why doesn't anyone read/respond on this thread?????

Didn't apply ED and have no "hook"...but I do think that while Trinity DOES look at the whole person, the grades and scores are important. The Trin students I met were very focused and seemed academically serious. Most of the newly admitted students I have talked with were kids who also applied to top LACs and maybe an Ivy or two as did I. Trin was one of my top choices...I just loved the school from my first visit and I visited 23 colleges. That's right, 23! I had varsity sports, great ECs, student govt and very good scores. I had lots of APs and SAT IIs. Trin seems to be academically rigorous. PM me for more info.

Thanks Ginger. I have read some of your previous posts and hope you will be happy at Trinity. Did you get off the WL at Colgate in the end? It sounds like that didn't happen, but I am sure you will be thrilled in Hartford. Anyway, I was hoping to hear some ED stats from students, but I appreciate your reponse. I think Trin is academically rigorous, but I think the kids have fun there, too. Anyway, best of luck to you, and post your thoughts once you arrive on campus!

No, didn't get off WL. It's OK...I loved Trinity when I first visited. Frankly I liked the prestige factor of Colgate and I liked the beautiful campus, but I have had time to think about two friends who did outstanding at my HS and had a hard time adjusting to the grade deflation at Colgate. I know myself enough to know that getting just a 3.0 with tons of studying would ultimately depress me. And, because I am a big city kid I WAS concerned that the remoteness of the area would get to me. Have to be honest here - I am an outdoorsy person and love skiing and hiking and I do HATE malls, but I like variety. My friends admitted that the remote location has made them crazy after two years. It is also the same reason why I turned down six other colleges I was accepted to, some with great $$ aid. Good luck to your D.

Ginger - I forgot to mention that my older D had tahe same experience at MIDD as you did (although she didn't apply ED). Visited a thousand times, had stellar grades/EC's, amazing interview, etc. and got waitlisted. To this day, we still talk about how insane it was she didn't get in. Also, had she not gotten in to her ED school after being deferred, she had Trinity as one of her top 4 choices. Colgate, where she was accepted, was #6. You are making a great choice! I think you said you wre from CA? Do you know anything about Occidental?

I did not consider applying to Oxy because I adamantly wanted to go to New England. It is in a suburb of Los Angeles, about 10 miles from downtown. It is a nice campus, truly in the middle of a residential neighborhood of middle class houses. When I was there for sports, I was surprised that this charming campus was hidden in the neighborhood. Oxy is considered to be Los Angeles's only LAC. It is small, has fantastic professors and my mom knows people who have gone there and they are very bright people and have done well in life. I personally don't know anyone who has gone there. For what it's worth, a car is a must in L.A. and there is not much around Oxy, so your D would have to take the bus (it's called the Glendale Beeline and I've taken it myself), or hook up with friends who have cars to get to fun places of which there are TONS in L.A. and nearby Pasadena.

BTW, It's probably more diverse than most LACs and has alot of Asians. L.A. HAS lots of Asians and Hispanics (about 50% of the population). The campus is quite liberal.

Thanks for the comments on MIDD. I still can't believe it. I firmly believe that for most top colleges, overwhelmingly grades matter most, then scores and then if they need a deal-breaker they'll go to ECs. UNLESS, they have a need for a short-stop who plays the tuba and built an orphanage that year in which case, grades don't matter at all.

I got in ED2 two years ago and I think (It's been a while) that my SAT's were around 1370 and my ACT's were 31....I've forgotton the rest of my stats.

Thanks jtvoyager for posting. Are you happy at the school? Kids friendly? Do you go to Hartford often or stay on campus more???
Thanks in advance.

jtvoyager- don't need to respond to my post #9. I found some of your previous posts.
