ED: International applicants thread

Hey everyone! I just felt like the internationals who applied ED to Columbia should get their own thread :)

First, did you guys apply for financial aid?

Also, did you get an interview yet?

Yes for FA no interview. No ID yet, either.

I didn’t receive an interview yet. I don’t know if there are any Columbia alums in Toronto willing to interview stressed, over-zealous, high-achieving kids :P

And I did apply for FA. Sent all our tax returns last week and submitted my CSS profile over the weekend.

Received contact for an interview.
Yes, I am applying for FA… Still have to finish up and submit my CSS.

Did the interview contact come via phone or email?
Also, what city are you in?

Thanks.

I didn’t get an interview yet… Am over in Singapore!

sorry i meant to ask “zaqmlp93”, but maybe the alumni community is small in singapore.

Hey everyone! I’m from Caracas, Venezuela and yes, I applied for financial aid. Haven’t gotten an interview offer yet, I hope I still can!

Got my interview offer last night for next Saturday. I live in the GTA and I’m guessing he’s interviewing a bunch of hs students from the GTA.

Anybody from the GTA get an interview yet?

By email! The interviewer’s personal email…

Sorry, but I don’t want to share my city ): I’m pretty sure there are quite a few alumni in my area though. Interviews seem to depend on whether there are available alumni around, so don’t freak out or anything! I had to wait about two weeks.

BTW, I live in the US.

Anyone got an interview in Vancouver?

No interview for me here in Vancouver. :(

@ConfusedCanuck: did you ED cc or engineering?

ED CC. To be honest I don’t even have my Columbia ID yet haha

what?! omg, did you try contacting them? :S omg let’s hope not too many people in the greater vancouver are applied. good luck!!! super nervous.

Just got an invitation to interview. Am over at Singapore. It appears that the adcom is doing a preliminary round of review now.

Contacted them, they told me not to worry until 30 days had passed… Tick tock tick tock. Looks like I’ll be sending them another email in 9 days at this rate. Good luck to you too!

@xxxamazexxx Ah, how did your interview go? I didn’t get one. Is that a bad thing?

It went well. The interviewer happened to be an alumnus of my current high school, so a degree of mutual understanding was immediately established without much initiation. And we happened to be reading the same books too. Couldn’t have asked for more lucky coincidences :D

As to the significance of getting/not getting an interview, assignments of interviews are done independently from the admission process. There is no mechanism of selection involved other than that of random assignment. The benefit of an interview is like that of an extra recommendation letter (the interviewer will write a report of you and send it to the adcom), which you may or may not need at all.
