ED interviews

Anybody contacted recently (as in the past few days) for an interview for ED?

within the last week and a half-ish, yep.

I was actually just contacted this morning.

That is really late -_-
I recently had my meeting! It was pretty interview-esque, but I thought she was very nice! I think she liked me.

Do I need to wear anything special or bring anything?

oh mickjagger…I thought you had not been contacted yet. What college are you applying to and what did she ask you.

Is that true that Cornell interviews students they think are more likely to be accepted? I have not received any notifications yet :(

^ No it is not true at all. These are not even interviews, they are information sessions. If you have not been contacted, that is probably because there is no alumni in your area, or no alumni with free time to have these meetings. Don’t overanalyze.

smileygerl, are you a parent or a prospective student? I applied to CAS. She was really friendly. At first, she asked me questions (the usual ones) that I knew how to answer. Then, we just conversed for the rest of the time (movies, what I do for fun, activities and classes at Cornell, life in general). It was pleasant overall! I’m happy it happened. I mean, when I first was asked about the interview, I was really dreading it. I dreaded it up until we introduced ourselves to each other. :)

Yeah, my alumnus scheduled my meeting for tomorrow.

Wow, that’s really soon. Good luck! And wear something casual. Wear something that you wear on a regular basis.

I was told that the interview reports for ED applicants had to be submitted around Thanksgiving by the alumni… Also, for those of you whining about not getting to meet with an alumni, get over it. Not everyone got to do so and it doesn’t affect your admission.

That’s a pretty insensitive comment and completely unnecessary. There are many questions about the entire alumni interview process that haven’t been answered and many kids continue to wonder what these interview/meetings/information sessions really mean.

It’s difficult to believe that ALL names of ALL applicants are given to alums in their areas. Why would people take time to meet with kids that Cornell is not at all interested in? Perhaps someone can shed some light on this mystery for those who have not been contacted and understand that this is a difficult process for everyone involved. Let’s continue to be supportive and nice.

several alums who meet with students have shed light on this topic several times - use the search function to research prior threads.

yes, ALL applicants are referred to an area CAAAN chair who then assigns the students to various VOLUNTEER alums…who then may get busy and not contact the student - or use e-mail and the student “forgot” to check their e-mail - or it could go the the spam folder…
but it is NOT a reflection on the merits of any particular applicant whether or not they get to meet with an alum for an IMFORMATION SESSION

Thanks for clearing that up Memphismom. If these are truly information sessions ONLY, then why do the alums do a report? Who reads the report? What do the reports say? If an alum doesn’t think any kid is a good fit, do they say that in a report? Just wondering. It’s details like these that make kids wonder and worry.

That might clear some misconceptions.
