as we all know, JHU doesn't look at the freshman grades. I did horrible in Freshman year.... At the end of jr year, I am at 3.7UW and ranked 5% weighted.
However, if my Frosh year is ignored, my gpa would be 3.8 UW, and I would be ranked 3%
I thought JHU was more competitive than NU... But is it that much harder?
I would really appreciate it if someone who has been through this ordeal could help me. Thanks
one more question. what matters more? actual gpa or rank

rank,,,,
I have same situation like you have.
I got 3.65 and was in top 10 students among 380.
You see??
you have to write your rank
thats what I've heard from people whom I can really trust on this matter.

And, I think Northwestern would be better.
I don't know much for JHU, but I've heard lots about Northwestern...so...thats' all I can say.

I don't know where you got the idea that Johns Hopkins does not look at freshman grades. I've looked into a lot of JHU admissions and I have never come across a sentence stating that JHU does not look at freshman year grades.

my class has 742 students. you do the math

Don't apply to a school simply because they ignore your freshman grades. If you can provide an explanation for it, most colleges will see the clear upward trend, and won't destroy you for your freshman grades.

JHU doesn't ignore freshman grades....

You should really bring up that 3.7 uw to a 3.8 before applying to those universities. Not sure if ED may be the best plan for you, unless your HS is REALLY REALLY competitive, which might mean that a 3.7 is okay.
