I have not seen too many people talking about early decisions! Does anybody know how many applicants there were this year? Also, are there any sort of indicators on the "Where am I..." page that could "hint" anything (I doubt it)? I know it's only ten days, but we're all anxious, come on!

A bit more than the record number from last year because there are more of your cohort than any previous year. Your odds of admittance will therefore be less than last year. This applies to most schools.
Not much you can do about it. You should have thinking about this 18 years ago, at conception.

It's wierd because in the college handbook by the collegeboard for 2006 it said that there were about 180 ED applicants, but I also read somewhere else that there were about 450 ED applicants. I know that the ED acceptance rate is pretty high, almost 60%. I wish there were stats that broke it up according to which school, and how many ED applicants there were per school. Does anybody know if such stats exist?

Look at it this way. You only apply ED if you LOVE the school and definitely want to go there. You also only apply ED if you yourself have hopes of getting in. The ED applicant pool is way better than the RD applicant pool on an average. Hence the high acceptance rate. Don't get yourself worked up about statistics. Best of Luck!

I thought it was the opposite..that the ED pool is weaker than the RD pool because they ED pool tends to apply to schools which they consider to be a "reach" for them...Nowadays, it seems rare for kids to apply to the school that they genuinely consider to be their top choice simply because of parental, personal, whatever source of pressure to apply to prestigious very low acceptance rate universities regardless of your chances and your affinity with the school.

I's say it's a little of both. I applied early bc I thought it was the best school on my list and I liked it upon visiting. While it may be a reach school for me, my decision was based mainly on how good the school was with some consideration as to whether or not I'd be waisting my time applying. But hey by now, what's done is done, one can only wait!

I applied to CMU Ed as a reach. I think if you find a school that you really like and want to attend more than any other school, but it's a reach for you, you should do ED.

I got in ED to CIT. See my post in the other thread if you really feel the urge.
