Just wanted to see what you guys think of my chances. My GPA is low, so there is that. But that is because I started in all regular classes in Freshman year, and did not know my full potential since I always underachieved due to my ADHD in middle school.

In top 30-20% I think.

Most of accepted students in Penn is in top 10%, and most kids in Wharton is even higher.

Can you elaborate on your ECs?

@ben69420 yeah. I am in economics club, family promise ( a volunteering club), global politics club (a Vice President here), young republican club (treasurer)

I also play guitar, invest, and am working on stock reports as well as preparing for the CFA Level 1 exam.

(I do more out of school, like guitar, and volunteering at meals on wheels and the food bank and various service trips, I could buff up the list but I’m not)

You’re profile looks fairly generic but legacies have like a 40% acceptance rate ED. Right now I think it’s a coinflip. If your dad is an active alumni that’ll only help.

Legacy plays a less important role in Penn’s admission. If you check the ED thread this year, you will find a lot of very disappointment alums. One legacy student has very stellar stats. She was deferred by Penn and accepted by UChicago.

Another example:

have some updated info:
I just calculated that my weighted end of junior year GPA is 4.066 (out of 5)
and i realized that Penn superstores ACTs, so i move my ACT from 34 --> 34.5 --> round to 35

Anyone know the chances now?

It is really hard for anyone to “chance you” even with legacy status… son knew many well qualified legacy applicants that were rejected this year, so while legacy helps, I really doubt it is a 40 or even 30% acceptance rate esp for Wharton. That said ED is the time that the hook of legacy will help you. All you can really do now is hone and craft a knock-their-socks-off essay, and keep those grades up!

I have read that Penn looks more at your unweighted GPA than your weighted and they have their own weighting system. Most Penn accepted students have an unweighted GPA of 3.9-4.0. If you fall into that category then that is a plus!

Best of luck
