I found this out from a CC buddy who is an Amherst student who was nice enough to summarize the article for me in a private IM.

I GOT IN! I GOT IN! I GOT IN! I GOT IN!

Congrats zspot! This is totally random, but you go to Pine Crest, Ft. Lauderdale, right? I think that's interesting and pretty cool... my mom went there way back in the day! Anyway, congrats to you and everyone else who got in, and keep us little ol' deferred children in your good thoughts. =D

zspot, congratulations! would you mind posting your stats please? :]

Well, I remember seeing the words "sends lots of kids to ivies every year", and "competative prep school in florida" and kind of just assumed.

Other Factors: My grades were not exactly "Amherst material," but the letter said that the factors that persuaded them to admit me were the "enthusiastic support on your behalf" and the essays. So I guess Amherst really does take the hollistic approach. Anywho, I GOT IN. :)

BTW, I copied the template from the Columbia board.

haha i think that all the acceptance letters are the same :]

yeah i just realized that :/ oh well

aspot9, congratulation on your acceptance. I don't think you need to apologize for your gpa. I don't know how long it will take people to realize that it's not just top scores, a zillion APs and off the chart gpas that get people admitted. AD committee put together a class of students that reflect a while range of factors. This is why the people who have all of the above and still get rejected are dismayed. I've been in this busy for more than 2 decades. Colleges are looking for real people not just high test takers. They are looking for that, but a lot more. So, you DESERVE to be at Amherst. Don't second guess their decision.

business not "busy"

thanks lmpw :)

From the Williams Board: I look forward to being rival with all those that have been accepted and watching Williams beat Amherst in every sport imaginable. J/K CONGRATS!!! :)
