Welcome, you brand-spankin' new Sagehens!

My S was deferred. Does anyone know the ultimate chance of acceptance after ED1 deferral?

greenguy, rather than wondering, why not have your S call the Admissions Office and inquire. If that's truly the school for him, he should let them know that and ask how he can strengthen his application. My D called Pomona a couple of times just to make sure that all the parts of her application had been received. She found the folks there very helpful and considerate. Good luck!

Thanks. Yes, my S will call to find out what he can do to strengthen his app, but I doubt he will be told "X percent of Y who applied ED I were deferred, and, of those, Z percent probably will be admitted." This is the data I'd like to know. Does anybody know this?

I think it used to be easier when there was just one ED opportunity. Because schools can be "hot" one year and cool down the next, and vice versa, I don't know how you could determine the formula used in admissions to decide what percentage gets deferred to ED2, to RD, etc. My philosophy is to ask; all they can say is "no."

would the people who got accepted mind posting their stats? thanks! :]

The statistics for waitlisting are slim but I don't know for deferral. I would think there is still a good shot but folks at Pomona are extremely approachable and will give you info if you call. Have your GC call and find out what you were weak in and then give more supporting info in that area.Call yourself to get info as well Good luck and let us know how it goes.

i live like an hour away, and i got my letters and stuff last week. Im so excited to be part of the class of 2009! (btw, on the old collegeconfidential site i was helpmelord, but then the ID stopped working, so i had to create a new one).

Anyways, some questions:

1) what are the chances of them rescinding the offer?
2) How many freshmen live without a roomate (i.e alone lol)

My sats:
SAT 1 750 M 720 V
SAT II 800 770 730 730 (writing, math 2, bio, chem)
APs: 4 exams taken with 2 4's and 2 5's. 5 exams planned for this year
IB: 6 and 7 on standard level exams
Rank: top 3% private school in cali

If you don't completely slack off, you're offer won't be rescinded. A quarter of first-years get singles. Btw, Congratulations to everyone who got in!

If we want to get a single, is there a way that we can request it, or is it all luck of the draw or something/

for those of you who were accepted...would you mind sharing some of your stats?
thanks,
jess

Sure... I go to a mediocre public school in the bay area (haha I don't even know where it ranks....). I have a 4.3 weighted GPA (4.0 nw). Ummm... 770v, 760m, 800 math IIc, 770 us history and ta dum... 710 on writing (blech). I'm taking 4 AP classes right now (but only 5 classes overall). As for AP tests.. 3 5's and 1 4... I was the President of our school's key club for 2 years, leader of an outside youth group for a couple of years, and captain of 3 varsity sports. I wrote one essay about growing up hearing in a deaf family and the other one about my crazy quest for quakers in Costa Rica. :-D Good luck!

strawberryfields--if you have any supplemental info, it can help a lot (or so i think). Even though i had a lot of leadership (president of two clubs and student governement, captain for varsity cross country), I did research at Upenn that eventually got published. I sent them the article as supplemental, and i think it really helped my application. So if you have like music, or a science project or something like that, you might as well send it in, if you feel that it is your best work. Pomona will send it to the department, who reads it, and grades it. Good luck again!

wow! that's impressive. thanks so much for the input. oh, and if you just got in ED, congrats!

Here are my D's stats:

3.975 GPA unweighted (they don't weight GPAs)
top 5% of 478 kids in competitive public high school (Boston suburb) (they don't rank either)
SATI: V800, M720
SATII: MathIIC780, Writing750, BioM720
APs: 4 on US History; taking Spanish, CalcAB, and US Gov. and Politics
ECs: Volleyball 4 years (frosh, 2 yrs JV [Capt. one year], 1 yr varsity and starting rotation)--won league championship this year
Dance 4 years
Bunch of other assorted things

okay i'll just post these stats and see if you guys think they stand a chance. i know there is no way of really knowing for sure...but maybe the will look promising? i'm a junior by the way.
-1510 SATs (730V, 780M), no SATII's yet..
-4.0 uw, 4.15 w but it will go up because of aps this year and next
-APs-Chem:4, AP Euro: 5, this year: US, Spanish, BC Calc, Bio. Next year i will take several more
-10 years swimming
-varsity debate..3 years
-alto saxaphone..4 years
-spanish club president and founder
-book club president (probably next year
-litmag..editor
-student council representative (hopwfully pres next year but we'll see.
-tutor everyday after school (so lots of hours of community service. i haven't counted which now seems like a mistake.)
-creative writing..more of a hobby but i've had works published in our litmag every year and am going to enter my work in some contests this year in hopes of getting something published.
-school, swimming, community service and debate awards, summer courses, etc. nothing too exciting or eye-popping though in terms of honors i guess although i'm sure there are things i could play up on my application to look more significant than they really seemed to me. and hopefully there will be more exciting things for this section in the future.

if you guys don't want this here (i understand where you would get off saying it belongs in a different forum) i will edit it out but you all seem like nice people so i thought i would ask...

strawberryfields--I would say that you have a very good chance of getting into Pomona as well as other competitive colleges/universities.

i think you have a great chance too! Plus, since youre a junior, you still have a lot of time! good luck

Ditto! I definitely think you have a legitimate shot :-D

thanks guys! i know i'm kind of thinking ahead a bit..but i love pomona and thought i would just see what some people with a little more knowledge of the school thought. anyway..thanks again!
