ED letters?

Relieved and grateful to report that my d received her acceptance yesterday here in central NY. Congrats to those who've been accepted; fingers crossed for those who were deferred. There's some good info on the CC website about bolstering chances after a deferral, so good luck - things could certainly still work out as you've hoped.

Posting my d's stats for the benefit of future readers who are nervously trying to assess chances (this was us until yesterday afternoon):

Unweighted GPA 3.7-3.8 (upward trend after not-great freshman year); school does not rank or weight. Considered a high-performing school. If it ranked, she'd probably be top 15 percent; if it also weighted, she'd have made it into the top decile. Will graduate with 5 APs and 2 SUPA courses (SUPA is an AP alternative hereabouts - Syracuse University classes). No AP Language; Calc AB, not BC (a source of speculation on an earlier thread); no physics at all (AP Chem and AP Bio instead).

SAT I: 710 V, 770 M, 730 W (took it twice)
SAT II: 750 APUSH, 740 Math 2
APs: 5 APUSH, 3 Chem (she reported both)

ECs: extensive involvement in dance (many hours weekly), particularly ballet. Volunteers as an assistant teacher in a children's class once a week. Lots of performing experience; however, no prestigious summer intensives. She's a very strong avocational dancer, not a potential professional. Sent a dance DVD as part of her app, which was evaluated by the dance department. Also does some school service activities and is a leader in a peer mentoring group, but these don't amount to much in terms of time - maybe 3-4 hours weekly.

She did the optional everything - essay, teacher recs (she sent two), and interview.

I thought her common app essay was very strong, but her optional essay about the kind of person she is was a home run. One of her recommenders broke with school protocol to show her his rec - it was the only time I felt optimistic in the entire process.

Hooks? Well, her sister is a 2005 W & M grad, but I thought the only legacy that counted was parent/grandparent. She's a caucasian female from NY who isn't an athlete - it seems to me that the only hook she had going for her was ED.

Sorry for babbling on so (can you tell we're somewhat dazed?) - hope this helps someone out there!

OK...a stressed out father in Sarasota wants to know if anyone from our part of Florida has heard anything yet?

Totally CRAZY! The mail just came, and there was nothing in it! I can not imagine that Miami got their letters yesterday and we have heard nothing...but we haven't!

Ha-I live in NOVA and still haven't heard. But apparently, all letters were sent out on November 30.

I live in Southwest Virginia and have a 1310 SAT
5 on AP US History and 4 on AP Psychology
4.3 GPA
completely weighterd classes senior year.
Essays average and good teacher reps

I think the main reason why I got in is becuase I am from southwest virginia and not too many people apply from this area. I am really excited and cannot wait to meet everyone else who got in!

I am sorry to those who did not get in now, but I heard the W&M only takes the best applicants in early decision and that those who do not make it first, have a good chance of getting in regular. Especially since they know that you really want to go to their school since you apllied early.

My daughter is enormously frustrated. After two trips to the college, and a personal interview, I can empathise with her. I don't get how so regions have them (like Miami) and yet you do not.

Good luck...and for our sake, I hope she hears soon!

still nothing in pa either :(

I hope yours comes soon Brian. I am in Broward County (Ft Lauderdale) and mine came Monday. Keep in mind USPS is ridiculously slow normally. Still, there doesn't seem to be a logical explanation for this. I hope she gets in. Will be great to have 3 people from the Sunshine State going.

Brian- That's odd! I can't imagine that Miami would get the letter before Sarasota ... go figure. I'm crossing my fingers for your daughter!

hey, dolfan- do you have a facebook?

Well, another day of waiting for a response has arrived. It is hard to explain to an emotional daughter that there is no rational way of knowing how the postal service delivers letters. Our mail is usually here by 2:00, so maybe today is finally the day!

Incredible...nothing again today. We're at a loss as to what to do at this point...

We've tried the admissions office with no luck. Any advice out there?

I haven't received my letter yet either, and I live in NOVA. My mom called admissions and they said if I don't get my letter by Friday to call and they will see what they can do.

Brian- I am sorry that your daughter hasn't received her email. USPS is pretty unpredictable with their mail. Hopefully it will be an acceptance and well worth the wait.

Pink- I am in the process of getting my new facebook setup. I do have AOL and email though so I'll pm you those if you want. It will be nice to at least know someone from the block :)

Well, it seems that another day has passed with no letter from William and Mary. :(

My d's letter just came...small envelope. Either a deferral or a denial I expect...

Sorry Lovebug. Brian if it doesn't same "Welcome" on the front it will hopefully be a deferral at the worst... Best of luck.

I got my letter for transfer today. I'm In!!! W&M C/O 2010!!!!!

Congrats rcmiller!

Deferred...so sad.... :-(

At least it is not a no. :-)

It sucks being deffered.
I'm really freaked out now... I submitted my application to W&M a couple days ago and now reading eveything I don't think that I'm good enough to get in. I really want to go but I don't live in VA anymore and don't have any connections. Grr
