Relieved and grateful to report that my d received her acceptance yesterday here in central NY. Congrats to those who've been accepted; fingers crossed for those who were deferred. There's some good info on the CC website about bolstering chances after a deferral, so good luck - things could certainly still work out as you've hoped.

Posting my d's stats for the benefit of future readers who are nervously trying to assess chances (this was us until yesterday afternoon):

Unweighted GPA 3.7-3.8 (upward trend after not-great freshman year); school does not rank or weight. Considered a high-performing school. If it ranked, she'd probably be top 15 percent; if it also weighted, she'd have made it into the top decile. Will graduate with 5 APs and 2 SUPA courses (SUPA is an AP alternative hereabouts - Syracuse University classes). No AP Language; Calc AB, not BC (a source of speculation on an earlier thread); no physics at all (AP Chem and AP Bio instead).

SAT I: 710 V, 770 M, 730 W (took it twice)
SAT II: 750 APUSH, 740 Math 2
APs: 5 APUSH, 3 Chem (she reported both)

ECs: extensive involvement in dance (many hours weekly), particularly ballet. Volunteers as an assistant teacher in a children's class once a week. Lots of performing experience; however, no prestigious summer intensives. She's a very strong avocational dancer, not a potential professional. Sent a dance DVD as part of her app, which was evaluated by the dance department. Also does some school service activities and is a leader in a peer mentoring group, but these don't amount to much in terms of time - maybe 3-4 hours weekly.

She did the optional everything - essay, teacher recs (she sent two), and interview.

I thought her common app essay was very strong, but her optional essay about the kind of person she is was a home run. One of her recommenders broke with school protocol to show her his rec - it was the only time I felt optimistic in the entire process.

Hooks? Well, her sister is a 2005 W & M grad, but I thought the only legacy that counted was parent/grandparent. She's a caucasian female from NY who isn't an athlete - it seems to me that the only hook she had going for her was ED.

Sorry for babbling on so (can you tell we're somewhat dazed?) - hope this helps someone out there!
