Hi everyone,

I applied to Amherst ED and I’m very anxiously awaiting my letter…be it good news or bad. My question is: Does everyone get their letter at the same time/on the same day? Or do they send them out as they go through the applications? I know the website says they mail out by December 15th, but, in anyone’s experience, have the letters been received any earlier? Is there a way to tell online, using your Amherst login?

Can you tell I’m way too nervous for my own good?

Thank you

my son applied ED last year, so I was checking this board then and reading the experiences of other ED applicants. The way it went then was that all the ED letters seemed to be sent out the same day (I think it was Dec. 7th or 8th last year), but people actually received them over a period of several days, depending the amount of time it took for the post office to deliver them. Students fairly close to the school got them first, students on the west coast got them 4 or 5 days later.

As of last year, there was no way to find out online. You had to wait for the letter. For those accepted, the tentative financial aid awards arrived about a week after the acceptance letters. All the letters --accept, defer, reject-- came in a regular sized envelope with nothing on the outside that signaled the decision.

It feels like a l-o-n-g wait, I know, but when you think about it, it's so much quicker than RD decisions!

Hi PinkSummer09,

In reading many of the posts from last year, I know that some people received their letters of acceptance as early as Dec. 9. I spoke with admissions at Amherst and they told me they will not begin reviewing ED apps until Dec. 1st. I also applied early. We should know something relatively soon. Good Luck!!
