ED or no ED, that is the question

The question is: how much of an advantage do we have applying ED vs RD

Suppose SAT is 2000 and GPA is 3.9 for Joe Blogs (ED)
SAT 2100 and GPA 4.00 for some other random guy (RD)

Both applied to lets say...some place that admits 20% of applicants
both of these guys have similar EC, SAT2, AP
So who wins?

If the ED admit is higher than Joe wins if not the other person wins. ED rates are usually higher that is what makes it attractive to applicant who can afford the commitment.

At a lot of schools, ED confers no benefit. The higher admit rate is often a result of a more self-selecting pool (more qualified applicants).

Schools that take into account level of applicants’ interest, however, may consider ED as a way of demonstrating a school as one’s first choice.
