Are the PIN numbers and passwords still required? There's no mention of either in the announcement on the website anymore.

I'm kind of feeling the same way...I wore my Columbia shirt this Monday, but I don't know if I'll ever end up wearing it again...it's sad, and scary. As far as I know, nobody from my school has heard back from top-ranked, Ivy League type schools yet--most responses have been from in state schools like University of Michigan, Michigan State, etc.

yeah. in Texas, Baylor University sends you your acceptance letter by text message. my friend got a text in class, and it was from Baylor saying "You've been accepted!"

MariaChristina, that's so awesome! If only Columbia did that...

I know! I was like, it would suck if your phone beeped in class, and you got it taken away or got in trouble, only to find out it said "Sorry, you've been rejected!"

i shall wear my lucky underwear on Tuesday then.

i just got this email--

MY NAME
Application PIN Number: #############

Dear XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX,

Thank you for your Early Decision application to Columbia University. We are nearing the end of our application review and will soon notify candidates of our decisions.

You can receive your decision online. We plan to post all decisions here on Tuesday, December 11, 2007, after 5:00pm (Eastern Time).

We are also mailing decisions, so you will receive a decision letter by mail as well.

If you applied online, to view your decision you will need both the PIN and password you created when you submitted your application. Your PIN appears at the top of this e-mail. If you have lost or forgotten your password, click here to receive your password via e-mail.

If you submitted a paper application, a PIN created for you appears at the top of this e-mail. To receive your password, please click on the "search" button here. You will then be able to use this PIN and password to check your decision online.

If you have questions, please contact the Office of Undergraduate Admissions at 212-854-2522 or ugrad-ask@columbia.edu.

Sincerely,

Jessica Marinaccio
Dean of Undergraduate Admissions

^^ I ALMOST HAD A HEART ATTACK. Even though I was expecting the e-mail, and even though it was completely illogical that they would send out decisions a) on a date different from the one they'd announced, and b) so late at night. I NEED THIS PROCESS TO BE OVER.

Same here. Oh my God. I'm so glad I checked this forum after I looked in my inbox. Saved me a few hours of hyperventilating.

The server is totally crashing on Tuesday, lol ;]

haha it will be a server overload like never before

^I would be too scared to even come here

Sooo...nervous....

It would be nicer if those pages on ApplyYourself had larger font :( Imagine, amid all the anticipation and heart-stopping uncertainty, you'd have to first drain five minutes scavenging among the tiny lines of Arial lettering for "Accepted" or "Rejected" or "Deferred"

EDIT - i see the "Message Centre". Maybe thats where the dreaded decisions would go to.

wow...very glad i came to this place first. WHEW.

hey does anyone know if we get the letters (hopefully packages) on tuesday as well?

I know that if you live in NYC, then you get the letter before the email. But I don't know about other places.

Server crash? I don't think so.

There are only ~2500 ED'ers, right?

So, just relax, do sth for fun over this weekend, and login early on Tuesday!

wow i just put myself through the pain of looking at last year's acceptance/rejection thread...wow i've lost all hope

i highly advise that nobody else do the same, unless ur a friggin genius interpretive dancer from the caribbean or sri lanka or something (which seems like everyone last year).

nuh uh, everyone on the thread from last year was an asian male from ny. wait, maybe that was RD.

good luck guys! i cannot tell you how jealous I am that you find out so soon! I applied ED to cornell and we have until the 19th.

(and p.s., cornell's server DID crash last year and it caused a 3 hour delay for decisions....so i would pray that it doesnt crash if i were you guys :) )

good luck! i hope it all works out for everyone
