So I know you need to be accepted into Brown first before they consider you for PLME, but for ED there’s an option that says ED just PLME or ED Brown too. How does this work? If you select to just ED PLME and are not accepted can you be accepted regular to Brown? Or can you get deferred to both?

Also does not checking the ED to Brown itself option lessen your chances of getting into Brown at all? The thing is I’d love to go to Brown with PLME but otherwise I’d like to compare the financial aid with other colleges first.

Let me lay out the options:

Apply ED to Brown/PLME, check the box (still want Brown if you don’t get into PLME)
-Accepted to both
-Accepted to Brown, rejected PLME
-Accepted to Brown, deferred PLME
-Deferred from Brown/PLME
-Rejected both

Apply to Brown, don’t check the box (only interested in Brown if you get into PLME):
-Accepted to Brown/PLME
-Deferred from Brown/PLME
-Rejected from Brown/PLME

If you want to compare financial aid, you shouldn’t apply ED at all.

Also does not checking the ED to Brown itself option lessen your chances of getting into Brown at all?

Yes.

Thanks for clearing that up bruno14!

So that means it’s less likely to be accepted in PLME if you don’t check the box?? Or more likely to be rejected than deferred?

Brown wants to accept people who want to go to Brown. Under bruno’s analysis, if you fall into option 2, you are more likely to be denied.

And I agree that if you need to compare financial aid, don’t apply ED.

From what I have seen, more likely to be deferred, but not necessarily to be denied if you check ED PLME, Not ED regular Brown. In fact a high percentage of those students get deferred (after all if they think they can get into PLME, they often are pretty good candidates.
Brown then knows you are either shopping financial aid packages, or not that interested in going to Brown as a standard (presumably) premed. You still have a good shot at getting into Brown regular undergrad, and I’ve seen a lot of those students get accepted as regular undergrad. The recent students can confirm this, but I don’t think I have seen someone who was deferred under this get accepted into PLME on the regular round. If so, it’s pretty rare.

Then do you think it’s better to just apply regular than ED PLME but not ED Brown?

If anyone got in PLME regular after being deferred I’d love to hear your experiences, thanks.
