I have a question about the early decision policy. On the agreement, it says you must go to stevens if you submit the deposit. So that means if I do ed and get accepted to Stevens and Drexel that I can still go to Drexel? My guidance counselor was also confused by that when she read the paper.

And now the dreaded part; chances!
my SAT is very low and I know that. I'm hoping I did well on the October SATs since I did some hardcore studying for that one.

ED is not a great idea for most students, since it limits choice. It also makes it impossible to compare financial or merit aid packages.
Try bringing up your SATs. You can also retake in December, which will give you plenty of time for RD.
Drexel may be a better fit.

If you apply ED to Stevens, and are accepted, you have to attend, unless the financial aid award is not doable. The rules are standard across all colleges for Early Decision.

In fact, you would have to withdraw all other applications, so Drexel wouldn’t have a chance to accept you.

I suggest you apply to both RD instead, since it doesn’t sound like you are 100% sold on Stevens.

Unless the policy changed since last year, Stevens ED is binding but only after you submit the deposit. If you are accepted to ED, you have to send the deposit to commit.

So to answer your question…“So that means if I do ed and get accepted to Stevens and Drexel that I can still go to Drexel?”…you can still go to Drexel if you get accepted to Stevens’ ED but once you send the deposit to Stevens you must go there.

The rules are standard for ED but Stevens is a little different. If you’re still not sure, call their admissions office. My son was accepted at both Drexel and Stevens but decided on Stevens. It’s a great fit for him and he hasn’t been home since the start of class because there’s so much to do on campus. I’m amazed at how much effort they put into all the events on campus. Check out their Office of Student Life at [Office of Student Life](http://www.stevens.edu/student_life/).

njmom27, are you sure? I don’t think any other school treat ED that way where you essentially are not applying ED then. I thought ED was always binding unless you have a financial hardship and cannot attend?

Sounds like applying ED without the intention of really going could screw you up. If they admitted you ED and you didn’t pay the deposit (waiting for other schools acceptances) then I doubt they would let you go RD.

Lakemom, although Stevens was on the top of the list for my son, he didn’t apply ED for that reason. He didn’t want to commit before receiving all the aid packages. It’s great that Stevens ED is not binding until the deposit is made…it allows those on the fence more time to decide.

Susgeek, thank you for your input with Stevens last year, it was very helpful.

So njmom27, did you son hear about other aid packages before had to make the deposit? I thought some schools don’t tell you until April so you wouldn’t have time to see them before the March deposit was due?

Lakemom, my son applied RD so he didn’t hear from Stevens until April. He had aid packages from Drexel and Rutgers before year end but didn’t want to decide before March without all the numbers. He didn’t apply to RPI…wanted to stay within 2hrs of home.
