Although I am applying to ED one school, can I still submit applications and be accepted at other schools in the meantime? Or do I have to wait until my ED decision comes back to apply anywhere else?

Yes you’re allowed one ED app and other RD & EA apps concurrently. Only Yale and Stanford’s EA programs are restrictive in the sense of not applying to other ED/EA programs.

Boston College and Georgetown do not allow Early Action applicants to apply Early Decision.

It’s actually a good idea to apply to other schools, or at least to have other applications completed, prior to hearing from your ED school.

Just think about it. Let’s say you are deferred, or even rejected from your ED school on December 15. Other apps are due on Jan. 1 or Jan. 15. Are you going to be in the appropriate frame of mind to write strong applications to your other schools? Or will it take you a while to recover?

All EA/ED programs allow you to apply RD elsewhere; you simply have to withdraw the RD apps if you get in ED. Additionally, even restrictive programs like Yale and Stanford allow you to apply early to state schools, for example.

As you can see, there are permutations and variations to many particular ED/EA programs. Make sure you know the rules for the schools to which you are applying.
