ED Roster

Good luck, guys!

--Last year ED1 admit, having an awesome time at Swat.

ed I applicant here

I like NJPitcher's suggestion to include some statistics so we can see how we compare to one another (whoever feels comfortable posting).

cjsb0160

SAT: 710M/750CR/690W 660 Math2/680 LIT
GPA: 96%
Rank: 9/270

ECs etc: Varsity Tennis, Marching Band, Key Club, Class VP, selected by faculty for leadership program, National Merit Semifinalist, work in pool sales full-time, other small stuff

possible hook: I lived in Tanzania for a year and became fluent in Swahili (parents were missionaries). I'm going back by myself on December 28th to teach Engish and computer skills for 6 months.

Personally, I don't really see any reason why you guys should compare stats. Does it really matter? You won't give enough information to really compare, and ultimately all that really matters is whether or not you are accepted.

International EDI applicant here~

I'm a Chinese and I'm applying from China.
Since I'm applying from outside the US,the resource for me to know about Swarthmore is really limited.I did my research on Swarthmore mainly by reading The Meaning of Swarthmore and old posts on CC.
Swarthmore is just where I want to go for my college education.I am most impressed by the fact that Swarthmore education not only emphasizes academic excellence but also one's responsibility to the society.I know if I could get into Swarthmore,I would be one step closer to realize my dream of becoming an educator and making a difference in my home country.
Even though I know my chance of being admitted is relatively slim (I don't have any overseas experience and I asked for A LOT of financial aid...),I applied for EDI.I just love Swarthmore sooooooo much that I would regret for my whole life if I did not give it a try.

good luck to all ED applicants!
Hope there will be more Chinese students in Swarthmore next year~(I've heard that currently there are only three...)

good luck, yimei! There certainly is a lot of information to read about Swat on these threads alone. I can see how you can fall in love with the school. You are very adventurous to apply to go to college, sight unseen, half way around the world!

my daughter is applying to come to your country as part of her semester studying abroad. But that would just be for part of one semester, not four years. I think it takes a lot of courage but the rewards are great.

good luck to you in your college search.

In the most recent data, there are 6 Swarthmore students who are citizens of the People's Republic of China.

Two of those list their address as being elsewhere, which probably means they are living overseas somewhere else -- for example, Hong Kong which is listed separately.

i agree that we shouldnt do statistics. no reason to get more stressed out about competition than is necessary. plus, who wants to contribute to that? not very swatlike in my opinion.

okey dokey shoegal and arador. i guess i'm really more interested in everyone's background than statistics, but we can talk about that when we meet at Swarthmore anyway :)

I applied ED 1 as well, hope we make it!

I'm also applying ED I.

Applied ED I and not too confident :)

why not too confident?

I never signed up on this list, guess I must've forgotten. Anyway, I'm ED I too.

Does anyone know what exactly deferral means for ED I? I know at Wesleyan if they defer you, they defer you to ED II. If Swat defers you ED I, do you go into the regular applicant pool or the ED II pool?

I'm pretty sure you get deferred to the regular applicant pool, but I'm not entirely sure. What a pain in the butt thing to do though (defer people to ED II) because some applicants might be planning to do ED II somewhere else.

I am pretty sure that deferred apps go to RD pool (and then admission is no longer binding).

Swat said they don't defer, it's hit or miss from what I gathered at the Info Session.

Here's what they say on the application supplement:

"Any Early Decision candidate not admitted will receive one of two determinations: a deferral of decision which secures reconsideration
for the candidate among the Regular Decision candidates, or a denial of admission which withdraws the application
from further consideration. If one of these determinations is made, the applicant is free to apply to other institutions."

Thank you so much, interesteddad.
