and so it begins again...y'all have a long way to go to get to the massiveness that was last year's list ;)

does anyone know the conversion of a 32 and 34 ACT

do you mean how to compare ACT scores with SAT scores?

the way i know is kinda difficult and it only works for one section at a time (math, science, reading, etc.)

what u have to do is standardize the test results. you do this by taking your score, subtracting the avg score from your score, and then dividing it by the standard deviation ( yah.... u would probably need a table telling u all this info.. but luckily it's in my AP stats book!)

for example,i got a 680 on the math section of the sat I ( the avg. score is 500 w/ a standard deviation of 100).. so (680-500)/100 = 1.8. on the act, i got a 27 on the math section (avg. = 18, w/ standard deviation of 6) .... and (27-18)/6= 1.5 !!! so i scored better on the math sat then i did on the math act! ( sorry if its kinda confusing.. im not that good at explaining stuff!)

do you go to westlake?

32 = 2130; 34 = 2260 according to the new SAT/ACT conversion chart

do you mean me???

cuz if u do.. then i dont :p !!! i go to a smaller, less expensive school in hollywood called immaculate heart high!

Haha, we had over 100 applicants on the roster as I recall. Want to do the stats analysis this year too? :D

I miss last years roster...it was out of control. I searched for it the other day and couldn't find it...how sad:(

for all you guys reading this that got into duke ed last year, what were your stats?

ah yes, the joys that were waiting for the decisions last year... how many different threads did we start in the final couple of days, making up games to pass the time? I seem to remember playing the "or" game and then doing "introductions" as if we had all gotten into Duke and were meeting each other in person... kinda weird when you look back on it, but it seemed like a good idea at the time :)

And I didn't get in ED (just so that it doesn't look like I'm ignoring the previous question)... I was deferred and then accepted

its too bad this year isnt gonna approach last year

I don't think the ED list was over 100, the RD list was.

when you get deferred which would feel like a bummer, for a school like duke, what are the best actions to take especialy from your experience?

When I was deferred I definitely CALLED them like, 2 days after. I asked them the best approach to argue my case, which of course my motive was to let them know how mch I wanted to go there. I sent them a few more recs such as another teacher rec and an employer rec (I work at small learning center so I know my boss pretty well). I also wrote my own letter to them that was pretty much just "Please let me in...I love you." My GC also got involved but didn't really do too much except call and then they never called back because they had apparently already made a decision.

In my opinion the best thing you can do is just not give up. There's so much "melting" with deferred applicants. Some will give up and do ED2 at places, and others will just think it's a hopeless cause and go somewere else. They get rejected. The best thing you could do is et them know you want in!

Now, you should cross that bridge when you come to it:)

In general I hear only 10% of deffered applicants get accepted in the regular round.

if i get deferred, would you recommend retaking a 2180 SAT (it would be my 4th time) or a 740 Math IIC?
