It will admit those rare students, but it will admit a lot of others as well. It's not always about being well-rounded, it's often about having one or two rather strong points that the admissions committee can use to "build a class," as they like to say these days. Everyone has a weakness.

And about the date y'all get notified, I think it's time to accept that it's the 15th. Duke very rarely gives notice out before the exact date they state (one time they even moved it back 24 hours). The person answering the phone knows what's going on, just calm down and wait for the 15th.

It's very hard to relax when a huge part of your life for the next 4 years could be decided in a matter of days, and when your friends at school are already finding out. Plus this whole "by the 15th" thing is like a tease haha. So please understand why we're all quasi-desperate at this point ay_caramba. I'm sure your "calm down" suggestion was in good faith but you're already at duke and at this point telling us to "calm down and wait" is like telling a little kid to stop thinking about christmas; it's just not possible for the most part. :)

So.... only 9 more days!

Yeah, you're right, I know that it's hard, I played the waiting game too, and I did it twice (I applied early to another school and was deferred).

I'm not saying don't be excited, I'm just saying it's better if you accept that the 15th is when you'll be getting it rather than getting overly-excited every day between now and then because "today might be the day!" when it won't be. haha that sounds harsh, sorry.

And pandabear, I'm not being pessimistic, I'm just stating the facts, like what the person in the actual admissions office is saying and my own past experience.

It's not like I wouldn't be happy for you all if they randomly decided to send out the letters tomorrow. That would be great!

Hey there,

I don't know his exact scores but it fit in the low end of the 25-75% range for last year's students in Arts and Sciences at Duke. SAT II were something like 610, 670, 710 for Mathematics, Chemistry, and Writing respectively. Also, he is not an underrepresented minority unless white folks are considered minorities...I think that is still another 15 years away and then Mexicans will run the US. (For all you Hispanics out there, I am not saying that is necessarily bad it's just statistically probable that you will represent over 50% of the US population.)

so if we use the normal percentage of admission for ED (about 30%), 6 of us will be accepted, 12 deferred, and 2 rejected
