I'm contemplating between applying to Yale SCEA and applying to Stanford SCEA. However, I heard that Yale likes to wait list EA applicants for the sake of lowering the acceptance rate. Is this true?

I've never heard that before. But I have no idea.

Expect lots of deferrals in the EA round this year as Princeton and Harvard will only be offering RD and Yale will likely have many more EA applicants than usual. I think they will want to hold and compare more than usual because no one knows what percentage of applicants will apply EA vs. RD this upcoming year.

No one here, other than any lurking admissions officers, could tell you whether Yale defers (is that what you meant by waitlists?) lots of EA applicants to lower the acceptance rate. No school would never admit to such a thing publicly.

Yale SCEA acceptance rate is already very low. I believe that they have the lostest early acceptance rate of any institution in the US but please don't quote me. I don't see any reason for Yale artificially lower their SCEA acceptance number first because they are already regarded as a prestigious institution, second because they are always in the top three of major rankings, and third because that could hurt their yield in the spring. So when determining which school to apply early you shouldn't think it as a strategy in the admissions game but where you will be most likely to attend if admitted (fit).

"third because that could hurt their yield in the spring."

I assume what you mean by this is that deferred applicants won't like Yale anymore. I agree that it would be a bad idea to lower the early acceptance rate for the sake of it. Two years ago at my school, a girl was deferred from Harvard early action and became extremely bitter for a week. Even when she got accepted in the regular round (and accepted to like five other hyps-caliber schools) she decided to go to Stanford instead with the attitude like, hmph if they thought I wasn't good enough to get in early then screw them.

that's stupid to get bitter over a school who deferred you.
LOL
