Ed ?s please help!

Duke is my dream school and I want to apply Ed but I have some questions.
1. I'm applying in 2012. Does anyone have a guess as to whether or not duke will let in more or less Ed applicants than previous years?
2. I'm going to need some financial aid. We calculated our efc and since duke meets 100% of demonstrated need we should have an idea of our financial aid package right? Obviously I can't compare packages if I apply Ed but I just need to know I can afford the school
3. An alumni told me it is harder for people from Wisconsin to get into duke. I have no idea why this would be but does anyone know it's true?
4. Sort of off topic but I want to write my common app essay on my passion for basketball. I play varsity, coach and volunteer at camps. I love it! but since duke is so known for it's bball will this come off as cheesy?

Thanks so much I really need your help! and if you want feel free to chance me! be brutally honest

On the first one I’m guessing they accept less (more kids apply Ed every year) so I’m guessing that it’s gonna be 24-26%ish. But remember there are a good bit of hooked applicants that apply such as legacy and athletes (that from my understanding have a slight push)

Duke does meet 100% of financial aid but the few tours I’ve been on have stressed that it is best to apply EA and ED to those schools (although you still can apply ED- most colleges don’t reccomed it)

Last summer, I met with some of the admissions officers at Duke during a summer program. They said that you shouldn’t write your common app essay (for any college) on anything that seems common, especially sports perseverance stories. They kept reiterating over and over again how important it was to write essays that were unique and let your own individual personality shine through. They said that they have to read such large quantities of essays a day that the ordinary ones get very repetitive and seem extremely drab. I personally would say that this would mean to not write about something in sports, unless you can create an entirely unique story that shows enough about why they should take you over other (equal numerically and statistically) candidates. The essays are one of the deciding factors between an AdCom taking one ACT 34 over another ACT 34

“An alumni told me it is harder for people from Wisconsin to get into duke. I have no idea why this would be but does anyone know it’s true?” That sounds like total BS to me. I would imagine it would be easier to apply from Wisconsin compared to much more competitive states a la California and New York
