Ten! My goodness! Random question, did you apply to Barnard because it's a women's college?

No, actually. I was researching colleges in or around Philly/Boston/NYC and Barnard came up on the list. I never thought I would ever want to go to an all women's college, but after I learned about it, it really did seem like "the best of both worlds" (so cliche). After I discovered Barnard, I looked at some other women's colleges (Wellesley, Bryn Mawr) and I really didn't like the feel of any of them. So Barnard is the only women's college on my list.

The fact that it was a women's college, but in a non traditional sense really appealed to me. I want to go to a women's college, but I don't want to be isolated from society because of it!

I'm also going to apply to Scripps as well, because it seems really similar to the set up Barnard has.

Alright, thanks. I didn't want to be the only one that wanted to go to Barnard in spite of the fact that it's a women's college. Whenever I tell people I applied there they say that I will be missing so much going to a single-sex college.

I have six more applications to fill out if I don't get into Barnard... Boooo!
On the women's college note I didn't even look for the women's college thing either... My guidance counselor just kept drilling into my head that Barnard would be the perfect school for me and when I finally got around to checking it out, lo and behold, it was!

Another question

Do you guys find it annoying when people ask you why you're applying to a women's college?

There's always this strange look that seems to accompany it ;p

Ugh, yes. Everyone is so discriminatory and keeps warning me to not become a raging lesbian, but my friends are all chill.

Yeah, even though Columbia is like.. right there and is chock full of boys !

Alot of people are shocked when I tell them that I'm applying to an all women's college. I guess I'm just not the "type". Usually I spend about a minute explaining what Barnard is about, and then they completely understand. I think a bunch of girls in my school have even added Barnard to their regular decision lists after hearing about it. Alot of people discredit women's college's for the simple fact that they're single-sex without doing any research. I'm glad I was able to get over that and look into Barnard, because it really does fit me just right.

I understand exactly what you all mean about the women's college thing. My d NEVER considered going to one...until she discovered Barnard.

Hang in there, ladies. I am hoping for the very best for each of you!!!

thanks, that means a lot!

thanks churchmusicmom! you have been really supportive my whole college confidential lifetime, and I really appreciate it :]

I love the "best of both worlds" part! You get the women empowerment and the 4 million plus men in NYC, what more do you want??? good luck everyone! I didn't apply ED because of the financial aid stuff but I can't imagine getting my envelope in 2 days.

jeez. watching this board is making me nervous for you ladies and i'm already in! (current first-year) for those of you freaking out, my friend from denver got hers on the 15th, so I'm crossing my fingers for you ladies that you'll all know by saturday. best of luck and i hope to see you guys around next year! if you have any questions once you get in (i agree that you should stay positive), i'm around! good luck all!

Today's the day. They're mailing the envelopes!!!!

I can't wait until we get them. OH PLEASE MAKE THEM COME BY SATURDAY!!!! I'm not sure I can make going the entire weekend without knowing!!

make them come today!! haha

I wonder...would the admissions office tell their decision over the phone?

yeah, i do wonder if they would tell us over the phone. my friend is applying to scripps college early and they allow it.

anyway, has anyone called the admissions office today to confirm if they're REALLY sending them today? haha

I am pretty sure they would not release decisions over the phone.

Hang in there, ladies. And please try not to expect them by Saturday. When my d got her (RD) acceptance, they had been sent from NY on a Thursday and we received it (I believe) on Monday.

So if you get it Saturday, GREAT. Just try not to EXPECT it, for your own mental health's sake!

Best to you!!!

I'm supposed to be getting an email since I'm an international applicant, which means I get it whenever they choose to shoot me an email. AH!
