ED time is coming: Chances, comments?

Hi, I'm a senior now and I want to see where i can get with my high school profile. I go to a private school, and am an us citizen. (ethnicity: asian)

unweighted GPA: 3.68 (94=A system. Hope this can cover my low gpa a bit)
SAT I: Going to take in Oct. and Nov, but aiming for 2200.
SAT II: Chem 740, Math IIC 750, Bio-M 720

11th grade:
AP Chem
AP Euro
12th Grade:
AP Cal AB
AP Stats
AP Psychology
AP Art

Other courses:
Took Chinese I & II, Web Design 2 (highest computer course), art for every year, etc...
My gpa isn't good, but my junior year had the highest GPA out of all years, and going to try to do the same in senior year.

EC's:
UNICEF trip to Mongolia, intern/community service at a dental hospital to help minorities (the chairman guy wrote me a rec.), another com. service at a hospital, varsity tennis team, Chemistry Society president (just at school), Chinese Club vice president (we make chinese magazines for the school), Economics Club (made newspapers and other report papers: worked as a editor/designer), National Art Honor Society, etc..(cant think of any other yet)

Awards: I dont have alot. I just have Honoral Certificates (GPA thing) for every semester, and an art award...

Extra: I'm not going to major in art, but i'm going to send a portfolio to show my ability/interest in art.
And I think i'm going to have fine recs from teachers, and have great app. essays ready for penn.

I need to know if Penn Engineering is way off for Early Decision to me.

Also i want to see if i have chances at Northwestern and JHU (both RD).
Please be honest, but don't be so brutal.

Your GPA is going to be a killer. The 94=A system won't save you because it's not uncommon. Also, it's pretty hard to judge without actual SAT scores, although your SAT IIs are good, so I'm guessing you're pretty good at testing. Your ECs are good (better than mine were!), but nothing outstanding. The most interesting thing is that you're good at science AND art.

Basically..if your GPA was .1 higher I'd say you'd have a solid chance, but right now it's kind of iffy. You really need to write interesting essays and get good recommendations. To be honest, I wouldn't be surprised if you're deferred.

bump..............

Get straight A's your first semester of senior year. Did you get A's in your math/science courses?

Make sure that your SAT scores are stellar. Study intensively during the summer because it'll be difficult balancing straight A's, extracurriculars, college applications, AND standardized testing in the fall.

Although I'm not familiar with SEAS admissions, demonstrating experience and talent in science/mathematics is probably a plus. However, keep in mind that there are no SEAS-specific admissions officers. Applications for all four schools are read by the same regional admissions officers, so it's certainly okay to emphasize your interest in subjects outside of the engineering realm (e.g. international volunteerism).

Personally, I would love an engineering student who has a passion for art. It might make an interesting essay topic--relating the two interests, how they're similar or different. Just a thought.

Wow, very encouraging!
thxxx
i have gotten straight A's in math subjects,
but not in science subjects though..but
if not A's, high B's though.

This is the part where I suggest that someone who wants to study engineering ought to take physics in high school...

bumpy...,,,,,,,,,,

What is your percentile/rank?

i dont know my rank yet......
anymore commetns?

damn yo, you still haven't taken the SAT?

Hm, you're also an Asian at a private school. Do you come from an obscure state?

Victorious, your weaknesses are clearly GPA and curriculum (no Physics and only Calc AB). Given my sense that getting into Penn Engineering is more about numbers than, say, CAS, I'd say that the odds are not in your favor. You should, of course, apply anyway, but make sure you have a Plan B.

so what are my chances?
i'm not expecting to get in, but its worth a shot

white male
3.94 UW GPA
1900 SAT*
31 ACT
Want to be premed....
AP Chem: 4
Taking AP Bio and Calc senior year
HHMI/NIH/MCPS Internship

Thats the main stuff, I'm not going to list all my minor ECs etc.

took it only once, i think the test is ***** and i refused to study for it or pay any additional costs to gain an advantage or take it again...there's so many added costs to help out on the test, i think the wealthy and poor should have the same opportunity to do well on this test. I also have not taken SAT IIs
