ED to penn - can apply other places?

can early decision applicants to penn apply to other schools like michigan or rutgers that have rolling admissions before they hear 12/14? might be a dumb question but i’ve been wondering

Yes! In fact waiting until then is risky, especially for Michigan - their spaces fill up early. I applied there in late October, and even that was really later than I should have - it takes a full month for them to process the app, and then anywhere from another 8-16 weeks (at this point) to hear back from them. Every week you wait decreases chances , even for someone who would have no trouble getting in earlier in the year.

wow i should probably send that in this week then... thanks

Just remember that if you get the Quaker call.....you must withdraw any offers of admission and your applications to all other schools. Small price to pay for coming to live w/ Ben.

anyone know if it's true that they started looking at ED apps today?

So what do you think they were doing for the last 28 days if they just began today? I love the rumor mill.......always grinding grist.

yea thats what the article in the dp said, they started looking at them as a committee today but the regional reps should have looked at them already

med1488 - One other thing - if you haven't done it already, the first thing I would do is to send your SATs or ACTs to Michigan like now, because they don't accept rush scores. It'll take 3-5 weeks to get to them.

hazmat - Right!!

Yea, today is the day they start meeting as a group to vote on our fate. Our apps have already been read, probably more than once, already.

that really worries me.. i rushed my satII scores on saturday.... don't know if they'll have them on time.. what if they make a decision on me tomorrow and get my new scores wednesday! argh.

when they say we need to withdraw other apps if we get in....how would we do that? just call up and say "haha, i got into penn, so i don't care about you anymore"?

Many students write a short, direct letter and fax it. I'd make some record for yourself and your HS guidance counselor. It is not wise to just phone and forget it. Make sure your HS counselor has a copy of your withdraw letter in your file should any questions come up.

collegecountdown, you said "Our apps have already been read, probably more than once, already."

I was under the impression that each regional officer spent only like 30 minutes reading through each application once... o_0

kliuless - I'm not positive that Penn does this, but it's common for schools to have more than one "reader."

Only 30 minutes???? I'd be honored if they gave us that much time

I laughed when I read that one too.......30 minutes X ......notify by Dec 15....NOT.

From the admissions books I've read, I think the amount of time really varies. Auto denies and auto admits hardly take any time to do. The group in the middle take alot more time, because they are not as clear cut. Some apps may get 10 minutes and another app could take 30.

the one coach told me they wont look at athletes until this weekend...so im guessing for all you guys they have already started

so does anyone know the specific order that they look at ED apps? and how long it takes, as in total days for all the apps?
