Hi, i’m an international who’s intending to apply ED to University of Pennsylvania this Nov. However i have 2 concerns that’ve been bugging me since i started obsessing about Penn.

My school counsellor told me that Penn is not very generous (like really stingy) in giving internationals Fin Aid. Is this true? Really how stingy is Penn towards internationals?

If i am to be admitted to Penn, yet we can’t reach an agreement on the financial aid package, can i reject the ED admittance offer and accept other RD schools that are more generous?

It would be great to hear some insightful answers to these questions. Thanks a lot.

not true…penn is very generous…one of my best friends applied penn ed as international student…she got ridiculous financial aid…way better than me lol…i don’t think they discriminate cuz u are international

yes, if financial is the reason u can decline…but ask them first if they can do something about it to make it better…if not then u can decline after all the resources are exhausted and they believed they can’t give u more and that u can’t pay more

starcrane721 is right. Penn is generous with fin. aid–I’m an int’l student and I definitely got more than what I needed/expected. & yes, you can decide not to attend if another institution is giving you a better aid package, but you should ask Penn if it could match the amount. The worst it could do is say no, in which case you inform Penn you will have to enroll to the other school for monetary reasons.

umm, i actually heard that Penn is kind of stingy with their FA. idk, I guess i varies on a case-to-case basis shrugs shoulders. But i’ve NEVER heard the word “generous” when describing Penn’s FA :P.
