ED to two schools ?

okay im planning on applying ED1 to one competitive school (21%) and ED2 to another slightly less competitive (31%)

basically if the first accepts me then ... obviously i'll go. but if not, i'll apply to the other school ED2 .

can this be done or no ?

Yes, it can be done.

Absolutely!

Yep!

Isn’t it a rigid rule that you can not apply ED to two schools ???

ED2 is specifically designed by colleges which have it for those who get rejected elsewhere ED1; it has an application deadline that is after ED1 decisions are given in mid-December with receipt of decision usually in late in January or early February rather than December. You can apply ED2 as soon as you are rejected ED1 and be in compliance with the rule that you cannot have more than one pending ED application at a time.

Or deferred from school #1. Once you are deferred from the first school, your app is then considered in the RD round and no longer binding.

But the deadline of CMU’s ED2 is Dec 1st. It means the decision of ED1 you apply before Nov has not come out yet. How can you decide whether you can apply ED2 at this moment? Or just withdraw the ED2 application as soon as you are accepted by the ED1 school?

Unfortunately, CMU, unlike most other colleges, seems to consider its ED2 merely a later form of ED1 and since ED agreements (such as one provided by Common Application) usually prohibit you from having two pending ED applications at the same time, it would appear that you cannot apply ED2 to CMU if you apply ED1 elsewhere.

thanks everyone ! :)
