ED vs. RD.. agch. I need some chocolate ice cream..

<p>Could you guys could take a look and tell me what you think my chances are? I grew up during middle school and HS in Boston, so I'm used to freakishly cold weather and snow falls of ove 4 feet. I love New England... sigh.</p>

<p>Anyways, I was thinking about applying ED but I haven't taken my SAT IIs yet, and I'm afraid that I'll wreck my chances if I apply ED. I'm taking SAT IIs in November, and if I screw up I can always take them in December before RD is due..</p>

<p>Leadership:
-Youth Leader of church's HS group. 15 teens ranging from 11-17. I lead basically the whole program since my church is so small. I teach Sabbath School, organize outreach and community service, fellowship programs, etc.
-Praise team leader at church: Piano & vocals.
-Co-leader of a cultural Korean Fan Dance group.</p>

<p>Other stuff:
-Played piano since 6 years old (11 years total). I play classical, improvise my own stuff, etc.
-Flute since sixth grade
-I picked up guitar last year and have been learning on my own
-Had a paid job as an English tutor for a French girl (once a week for about three months)
-Job as Dental assistant and secretary for summer of 9th and 10th grade
-Spent an academic semester abroad in France the 2nd semester of sophmore year. Lived with a host family and attended an actual French high (NOT international) school for six months. (this is why i don't have rank. international grades)
-Volunteered once a week at a Used Books Cafe of Housing Works (proceeds go to help AIDs victims in NYC who are homeless).
-Many many volunteer events with our Fan Dance group performing, church group singing, just me visiting.. at nursing homes, cancer walks, benefits, etc.</p>

<p>I know my clubs and leadership positions look weak, but I do have an excuse... In the middle of my sophmore year I went abroad for an exchange in France. After I got back, during that summer our family moved to New Jersey. So I've been in a total of three high schools, and its been a little tough on my involvement in school since I've moved around so much.. Also, my first quarter grades for Junior year are a bit off since I had a hard time ajusting to this freakishly competitive school after being at such a laid-back on in Boston (YEA boston!). </p>

<p>I do expect spectacular essays.. writing's always been my strong point (and yet, sadly, as the SATs will testify, math has not been..).
RECs: should be good overall. Who knows. Switching schools doesn't really let you get to know teachers that well.</p>

<p>Let me know what you think!</p>

<p>No one? Any opinions will help..</p>

<p>I need some chocolate ice cream too, but we only have cookies'n cream :(</p>

<p>If you love the school, apply ED. You have as good a shot as anyone.</p>

<p>have you visited the school?..very important to love the school before choosing...example we are from florida ..from reading brochures etc. we thought Brown was the way to go for my son(08)...we spent 3 days there and just didnt feel right to my son...went to dartmouth and it was dead cold and snow in february and my son knew after that weekend there was no need to look elsewhere dartmouth was it..
your sat need some balance if your math is stand out low<br>
dont apologize for anything ..your high school years was far more interesting than most kids...i would emphasize your leadership roles and do talk more
of things outside asian culture..sadly you may suffer a bit from reverse
discrimination since asian kids so heavy in the applicant pool at the good schools...your overseas experience and tutoring sounds like something dart would love to hear about since language a big deal at dartmouth (read about prof Rassias)
if ed ..have a few more apps fully ready to go just in case.. remeber its hard to scramble for recc and transcipts etc in dec before the reg application closes good luck and it is all worth it as son loves Dart!!</p>

<p>I love it, I love it, I love it.</p>

<p>I just came back from a visit to Dartmouth, we went up on Friday and came back Sunday. On our way up, we also stopped by Weslyan, and I didn't even have to get out of the car- it doesn't hold a candle to Dartmouth. Dartmouth is BEAUTIFUL. And the people are so nice too :).</p>

<p>glad you had good visit at dartmouth ..it certaily confirms that
all your efforts will be worth it</p>
