Are there higher chances for me to get into Harvey Mudd by ED? and whats the difference between their ED 1 and ED 2? I visited the campus last week and i just fell in love with it. I really want to go there for engineering. Can you please chance me and tell me how likely you think it is for me to get in:
GPA: 3.7uw 4.5 w
ACT: 35 super score (36 Math, 36 Science, 34 Reading, 34 English)
APs: 4 in Macro. I’m sure I’ll get a 5 in Chem and BC Calc. I’m taking Physics C, AP Stats, AP Psychology, and AP Environmental Sciences next year.
I am taking AP Stats and Calc III in school next year giving me 5 years of Math credits and I will also have 10 years of science credits completed before I graduate due to doubling and tripling up on science classes every year.
I’m pretty sure I’ll have solid essays as I have already started writing my supplement essays and I’m going to have 2 teachers who have had me in class for 2 years and have known me all 4 years due to clubs write me recommendation letters and I’m expecting them to be very good.
I will be taking the SAT Subjects tests of: Math 1+2; and Chemistry and Physics and I think i will be scoring 750+ on all of them
My EC’s include:
Math team-i’ve also won awards at state competitions and will be President next year
Gadget Club-engineering club, president next year
Chess Team
Fermionic Matters High Energy Physics: We have designed an experiment which we are going to be running in FermiLabs over the summer for a week and are getting a paper published into a scientific journal and my name will be on it.
World Youth in Science and Engineering(WYSE): Founded and president
Scholastic Bowl: planning to co-found with a friend if my activities director would allow us
Eye Level Learning Center Teacher
Private tutor
Online Mathcounts tutoring volunteer coach
FLL state volunteering
FRC Robotics Club
HIMCM 36 hour Math Modelling contest
Chicago American Regional Math league all star team (D-Team)
DECA (business club)
Fencing-qualified and went to Junior Olympics this year
I also work on many robotics and engineering projects on my free time such as a Mind-controlled 3d printed robotic arm I made for the Google Science Fair and many other projects I work on. I’m going to be running a hopefully successful kickstarter over the summer to sell a product that a friend and I are currently building.
Can you please chance me for ED and RD and also advise me on which one would be better for me to apply through? Thank you
I should probably also have this:
Next year course Load: Physics C, AP Stats, AP Psychology, and AP Environmental Sciences, Calc III, AP Lit, Principles of Engineering, (and early bird gym to fit all my classes in)
I am taking AP Stats and Calc III in school next year giving me 5 years of Math credits and I will also have 10 years of science credits completed before I graduate due to doubling and tripling up on science classes every year most of which were honors except a few for which there was no Honors class available but I was interested in the subject. I should although say that I got B’s on Algebra 2 and Precalculus both semesters because of bad teachers (I know this shouldn’t be an excuse) but I’ve been getting 97’s in my Calculus BC class this semester. I also hope to bring up my bad GPA with first semester senior given that I don’t apply for ED1.
We, like you, fell in love with HMC (and the consortium) too. My daughter is at Scripps and my son will be at HMC this fall. Good luck on your journey!
I don’t think you need to bother taking the Math 1 subject test. They only care about math 2.
I don’t think there is any real difference between ED 1 and ED 2 except of course the deadline. My son wasn’t quite ready at the ED 1 deadline so he did ED 2. If you go ED, be absolutely sure it’s your first choice and you can handle the finances.
I really loved the college, even more than Stanford, UC Berkeley, or Caltech. Its definitely my top and I believe we can handle the finances. So if i want to bring up my GPA w/ senior year a little; i can apply ED2 and still have same chances as ED1? ED does raise my chances a little bit right?
I don’t think they look at your senior grades for ED 2. He was notified of his admissions on Feb 6th and the common app shows his mid year report was downloaded on Feb 9th. So if you want to get your grades up you probably want to do RD. But yes, I think ED raises your chances a little bit because it shows interest and I think it had a higher admit rate (I don’t know if there is a difference between ED1 and ED2 in that regard). Here’s an article on ED at the 5C’s. http://tsl.pomona.edu/articles/2015/2/21/news/6011-5cs-release-early-decision-results
My child applied for ED1 and accepted. She had to send Senior Year (fall) transcript along with other application documents and after she was accepted in December she had to send mid year report. Mudd is such a great and unique school. Good luck!
I’m a rising senior at HMC, who was admitted with grades and scores similar to these, albeit via the waitlist. I’d say you’re a likely admit, in large part because of your scientific publication, which is an impressive enough accomplishment to stand out on /grad school/ applications. I’d advise you not to worry about ED, and cast your proverbial net wide unless you are certain HMC is your first choice.
Okay thank you so much. I will probably do ED1 then because Mudd is definitely my first choice
