ED vs. RD

So...
I applied ED, and people claim that it is easier to get in ED than RD, but is there any truth to that statement. Will they lower admissions standards for applying ED?

i hear the same thing...i think that they accept 28% ED and 24% RD...those might not be the correct numbers but i know that it is "easier" even though it is still very competitive

i'm pretty sure the 2007 acceptance rate was about like a 34%, according to usnews. I don't know anything about ED and RD rates though.

The acceptance rate is higher ED.
Also, when they're choosing who to let in ED they can take, basically, whoever they feel is qualified. During RD, they can only take so many applicants, and are forced to just pick the top say 9,000, when there are 11,000 who are super qualified.

Also, although this is more speculative, I'd assume that most of the people with truly outstanding stats (those on par with Ivy League schools) would be applying RD in order to weigh scholarship options and several acceptances. So, the ED applicant pool (which I'm a part of, so don't take offense) is possibly less qualified, overall, than the RD one.

Another speculation here, but I hear some colleges look at applicants with stats way above the average incoming freshman (probably happens less in a school like NYU) and reject them to save space for people who are truly interested in attending. ED takes that factor away.
And if you're not applying for aid in RD anyway (what a great world that would be), ED shows that NYU is your first choice, which must count for something.

Thanks guys.

ED acceptances are always higher (otherwise what would be the point of entering a legally binding contract with no advantages), because they lower admission standards because of the commitment you are making to the university.

Im hoping that theyre going to need a lot more money and accept more students, even if it means raising tuition. I dont care if im in debt up to my eye sockets with student loans, i wanna go to nyu damn it!

wow! You are determined.

i would've applied ED, but my parents wouldn't let me commit to a school that's so expensive. sigh i sent in my app yesterday, and now i have to wait all the way until april! ugh

At least you arent completely freaking out like the rest of us right now. Also, remember, your 2nd semester scores aren't taken in to account, so after exams, you can take a deep breath.

^kwoc

i feel you. i had asked my parents if i could apply ED back last january and they said yes......... as the deadline came closer they changed their minds because of the expenses.

=/

haha, that's hilarious, but i totally agree with you bondgirl.
:\
i guess i'd give up a limb at this point.
10-13th! ugh!
i swear, if i have to wait past saturday, i may just go mad.
