ED Wharton Dreams. Are they just a dream?

hello all.

I want to early to Whartonand hopefully go into investment banking. I also plan on applying to Binghamton, Cornell- AEM, Northwestern, Emory, Virginia, Columbia, NYU Stern and Michigan Ross

I would say I am in the top 15 of a class of 300 in a competitive high school.
I had a 720 on CR. 700 on M which is a 1420.
I also got a 800 on my SAT II for World History, and I got a 800 on my SAT II in U.S History, a 780 on Chem and a 710 on Math I.

I have 99.3 GPA weighted average and over a 97 average without the weight.

Summer Intern at Cornell ILR School conducting economics research 2012.

School: I am in all honors/AP. I took AP World (5), AP US History (5), AP Chem (4) and AP English Language and Composition (5).
Senior Year I plan on taking AP Psychology, AP Calculus AB, AP Gov't, AP Macroecnomics, AP Spanish and AP English Literature.

I also plan on getting great recommendation leaders from my AP US History Teacher and AP English Teacher, and hopefully my advisor for my economic research.

Additionally, I visited the campus and took a tour.

I'm not retaking any tests or taking additional tests, too tired.

What’s your writing SAT score?

Anyway, your credentials are pretty good, but your SAT I Score is weak, especially for Wharton. I’d suggest retaking it, even if you’re “tired”. Surely you can take 3 hours of a Saturday morning to better position yourself in college admissions.

I got 690 writing and i took test 3 times. i dont know, i get nerves when i take test. I think a fourth time will not be better for me.

Yeah, you shouldn’t take it more than 3 times. However, a 2110 is not competitive for Wharton. Have you tried the ACT? Many people do better.

2110 is fine if you have other ec’s etc to back it up. I see alot of activities but not much leadership, might want to try working on that to improve your chances. The previous work experience will help though so make sure to play up on that.

Also, I’m not sure how much you know about investment banking but it might help to do a little research on it before deciding too quickly. It’s kinda hypocritical coming from me considering I’m heading in that direction myself but it’s not exactly a fun industry even if you are earning crazy salaries.

I have to respectfully disagree with @disgradius. A 2110 is not a bad score at all; in fact, its a great score, for most schools. With that being said, you would need a very significant hook or EC to back that up at a school like Wharton, where many many applicants have scores of 2300+ AND great EC’s. A 2110 with no hook and no particularly great EC’s is most definitely not competitive for Wharton.

lol pixels, that’s why I said, it’s not his SAT scores themselves so much as there’s nothing else that stands out. 2110 is on the low side but it wont count against you that much. It’s not the SATs that are hurting his chances, I know plenty of wharton kids with ~2200 SAT scores. If you can bring it up 150 points or more, it might be worth retaking but otherwise, the SAT isn’t worth much emphasis (hell I had a 2400 and got rejected from uchicago but accepted into wharton). What you really need to do is bolster your ec’s to make yourself stand out.

I can agree with most of what you say, and I agree that EC’s are important, but considering that the OP is a rising senior, its a bit late to bolster his/her EC’s.

True that, just write a good essay and hope for the best OP.

Either that or find the hidden 1/8 URM blood in you lol.

Your SAT scores are dangerously low, especially math…the fact that you got a 700 M, 710 on Math 1 is a red flag. I’m actually not sure if Math 1 is going to cut it–you may want to check with admissions. Wharton is one of the most quant-focused business schools out there, and they’re going to look closely to see if you can handle the rigor. I’m not saying it’s impossible–but you’re going to have to demonstrate you can handle difficult math elsewhere in your app. You may want to retake the SAT, take Math II, and/or take Calc BC.

That being said, you do show definite interest in business/finance through your ECs. If you focused on your econ research at Cornell that would probably help a lot–hopefully there’s some quant analysis there you can talk about. Write a solid essay and hope for the best.
