I'm applying ED to Vassar, but I have most of my common app filled out and ready to go. Just yesterday, someone told me that if you're doing ED you should use the school's application.

Is this true? Do colleges look down on you if you do ED and still use the common app?

It wouldn't really be a problem, but the essay they ask for on the Vassar app is different than the essay I chose to write for my common app.

I strongly doubt that school's care which forms applicants use. If they did, they would require applicants to exclusively use their own forms. My S is applying ED and using the Common Appl. I have no concern about it.

Does Vassar have a supplement that you need to file in addition to the common app? Be sure to see if the additional essay is on the supplement. If you're worried about it, you could always use the uniquely-Vassar essay on the common app for ED, and then switch it out for other schools that you apply to later. The common app will not be locked after ED (as of 10/19).

I actually think they prefer the common application because it cna be downloaded. Also, schools that accept the common app have an agreement that they will not prejudice anyone who chooses to use it or not. Use whatever is easiest for you.

My friend was telling me that I should use the UPenn application, but using it may actually go against an applicant. The UPenn application requires only two essays, while the CommonApp and supplement require three essays and has an optional one. By default, you will naturally be spending more time on the CommonApp, which means they may see you as more interested.

It's a toss up, but I doubt any school really cares. Just pick one that you're comfortable with and run with it.
