ED1 Class of 2019 Applicants

Hi guys, I just submitted my application to Tufts ED1, and was hoping to find some of you other people out there who are going through the same thing as me! Also, when I go to the application checklist, it says that all my stuff like the Common App and writing supplements and stuff are being "awaited", even though I sent them in. Is this normal?

Hi! I submitted about a week ago for ED1 too. It’s nerve-wracking, isn’t it?
Hmm, I was having issues with that as well (mostly with my teacher recs). Maybe check again in a couple of days to check?

@lmnopkrs‌ yeah I’ll keep checking back! It’s horribly nerve-wracking, I feel like I just gave them my heart and they can shatter it in one email. How do you feel about your application?

Yeah, same!! In terms of grades and standardized test scores, I’m really not up to par with everyone else (or with the vast majority of accepted students in recent years). That’s alright though  What happens, happens. What about you?

Hey! I just submitted mine too, and I think I’m about to have a heart attack. Does anyone know off the top of their head whether they have released ED decisions early in the past?

@lmnopkrs‌ did you take the SAT or the ACT? My standardized tests are OK but I got a C in Math last year cause I go to a really hard school in Paris, so I’m really scared of getting rejected because of that…
@awkwardntall‌ yay, another person on the verge of having a heart attack! Welcome to the forum of heart attack prone ED1ers  I know that they’ve released ED1 a day early before, and ED2 was released like 6 days early in 2012

@dacookiemonster oh man I’m in the exact same boat. I’m in the IB program at school so it’s really tough to get stellar grades. I got a C once in math too haha…not my proudest moment. I took the ACT and decided to send it in after trying the SAT a couple of times.
@awkwardntall hi! We can all suffer heart failures together!

Hi everyone. I am also an ED applicant experiencing the same stress as all of you! I think my biggest problem is that I’m from CT where there is great competition from within my school and nearby ones. Therefore, I have no clue how this is gonna end (but I want to get in extremely badly) but good luck to everyone! (I have stats posted in case anyone else is as nosy as I am  )

Hi @conservativearts‌! We’re pretty much in the same boat; I’m from an area of nj where 4 kids I know have already committed to tufts for athletics. Seeing as I’m not the most physically gifted person (see my username), I hope this doesn’t hurt my chances. Good luck though!

@awkwardntall good luck to you, too! Hopefully Tufts is large enough that there are still a substantial amount of openings left for unhooked applicants after taking out athletes, URMs, and legacies (a huge issue at small LACS like Amherst and Bowdoin)

Welcome @conservativearts  What was it about Tufts that drew you guys in? I just love it so much!

Thanks @lmnopkrs ! For me, Tufts was one of those schools that looked like a perfect match on paper and became “the” perfect match after I visited. It is strong in the programs that I want, generally attended by the kind of kids I fit in with, a perfect distance away from home, right outside of my favorite city ever, has top rated food which is perfect for a foodie like me, and has a certain indescribable feel like no other college I’ve been to

Hi guys I applied ED I as well! I’m not optimistic about being accepted, rather I’m hopeful. Tufts is a hard school to be admitted to but I believe risking my EDI for Tufts is worth it. Upon my recent visit (for the Voices of Diversity Program nearly two weeks ago) I loved the Boston/New England feel of the campus, the diverse and awesome student body, the plethora of opportunities available, as well as the fact that Tufts really puts weight into their applicants’ personalities and lives rather than solely basing their admissions decisions off of standardized testing/GPAs. Overall, I’m happy I applied EDI and I hope all of us get in (I know it incredibly unlikely but hey, it’s worth a try haha)!

@RonaldinhoLion‌ I feel you! I went to the Voices Program and absolutely fell in love with the school and the people (everyone is so smart/genuine/nice). I’m from California and live less than 15 mins away from UC Berkeley but after visiting Tufts, I knew I wanted to apply ED. Fingers crossed for everyone though

@lmnopkrs‌ for me, the IR program and student body were the two biggest selling points. Everyone who goes there is so happy to be there, and the student body is composed of genuinely interesting, intelligent people. However, despite the high intelligence level, the personality of the student body doesn’t seem to be too pretentious, which is interesting (and phenomenal!) for a school of this caliber. The IR program is also unparalleled, and since that’s what I want to go into, that’s a huge plus. There are so many phenomenal language programs and study abroad opportunities too! I could go on for hours. (Also Boston, but i feel like if I gushed about that, I’d be repeating what everyone else is saying. Who wouldn’t love Boston?)

Those things, and just the overall vibe when you step on campus. I don’t know how to explain it, but for me there was a definite “this is it” feeling.

Just a show of hands: who put down IR as his/her first academic interest? (I know I did) Will it make it more competitive for those who out it down if lots of people are interested because of academic diversity purposes?

Hi @RonaldinhoLion and @melxxr!
@conservativearts I did! I’m not sure…I mean, realistically (and unfortunately for us), it would make sense if it was more competitive for those who put down IR. Hopefully it doesn’t hinder our chances significantly, and I doubt it’ll be a deciding factor or anything.

Hey, everyone! I applied to Tufts ED I as well. I am really worried about my chances as well.
I’m not sure if putting down IR would necessarily make it more competitive, just because universities know that most students change their major.
Also, this is a general question. I know Tufts has a pretty good medical school, and the data I saw (and from what my parents told me as physicians themselves) shows that they also have a good Pre-Med program. Would all of you agree with this?

@worldtraveler97 I would agree with that. The program itself is very strong but a lot of the classes (notably beginning level bio and chasm classes) are said to be very tough

Hey @worldtraveler97 and @lmnopkrs! I know a professor there, and he said that even though you express interest in your application, they don’t take that into account since you actually declare your major after you are accepted. So no worries! We’re all good
