After getting advice from a previous post about reconsidering my ED options, I’ve chosen Emory!I am now just waiting for my counselor to finish the school report and for one teacher recommendation and I can turn in my ED application. Also, I’m applying ED to both Emory and Oxford College. Here’s a quick run-down of my stats:
Gender: Male
Ethnicity: Asian (Filipino)
Languages: English, Filipino, and Bikol (speak, read, and write in all three)
Citizenship: US Dual Citizen (born and raised in the Philippines; been living in the U.S. since 2011)
Applying for financial aid? Yes!
GPA (UW/W): 4.0/4.7917
ACT: 28 (31E 28M 28R 26S)
Intended Major: Environmental Science (Natural Sciences and Engineering) or Environment and Sustainability (Business) - due to my relatively low science sub-score on the ACT, would it be better to declare undecided?
APs:
AP Environmental Science (2)*
AP Biology (4)
AP English Language and Composition (3)
AP Chemistry
AP Physics I
AP Psychology
AP English Literature and Composition
*Was not at all focused… I was too held up on finishing my research paper (last paper in AP English) which was due the same day of the test (mistake on my part due to procrastination).
Activities (nothing outstanding… sadly):
- Environmental Research at NC State (12th)
-conducting soil and water sample analysis of wetlands and evaluating site’s species richness - Guitar player (9th-12th)
-performed live shows at a local music academy; I’m currently composing original composition for “Senior Graduation Project” that is required for my school’s graduation. - YMCA 21st Century Learning Tutor (11th-12th)
- FIRST Robotics (10th)
- VEX Robotics (11th-12th)
- Church Thrift Store volunteer (9th-12th)
Awards: None (except for A Honor Roll and NHS… which I’m not gonna put on my application since I feel like everyone would have them)
Teacher Recommendations: waived my right to see them. Your guess is good as mine, though obviously I picked teachers that liked me.
Common App Essay and Supplements: highly subjective so I’m not gonna get into it, though I’ve gotten positive feedback from teachers and peers.
