ED2 decisions

Does anyone know when the ed2 decisions are due out? I getting freaked out.

February 15th.

I mean, when are they actually out? And do they email internationals?

They usually mail them out two days before the due date. And internationals can get their decisions by contacting Admissions if they don't get a response within a week or so, I believe. I don't think they'll start e-mailing anytime soon.

International students will get e-mail notifications.

yeah, i feel a bit anxious myself. i wish everyone the best though :)

Letters were mailed out today or yesterday. Some locals and nearby surrounding areas are getting their decisions. Good luck.

Really??? Ow ****!! I'll have to email them today then. I'm getting soooo nervous.

I got in ED2! Just got the letter today.

SO EXCITED! Swarthmore is so cool!!!!

what does the envelope look like? Fat? Thin? Writing on the back? My D is anxiously waiting (and so are her parents...)?

BTW--CONGRATULATIONS!! (sorry, I'm sort of self-focused right now...)

The envelope wasn't small, wasn't big. It was mid size (picture an 8 by 11 folded in half..thats about the size of the envelope). It had the acceptance letter and a return envelope to send a deposit. Good luck! I hope you hear good news.

hey! congratulations, downeasteralexa. unfortunately, i got deferred. i was pretty miffed! i thought i had a good chance: 2250 on the SATs, 4.6 weighted GPA, top ten percent of my class etc., editor on the school paper and lit mag, in model un, started my own charitable organization and sent in an art portfolio i'm really proud of...apparently, it wasn't good enough for swat...i feel so confused!

downeasteralexa and lolita22, was the letter sent usiing fedex or USPS or what?

lolita22- there was a lot of those sort of decisions going around during ED1 too. Craaaazy school, Swat is. If it makes you feel better, a deferral is 819575792x better than a rejection (I'll vouch for that!)... And at least you only have a month and a half left to wait.

jhl- My ED1 letter came by just normal regular mail. Like downeaster said, it's medium sized (hamburger fold, if you know what I mean), so they don't need any crazy special mailing.

Congrats, downeast! (And everyone else that also winds up being accepted!)

jhl--sorry, no idea! my dad got it when i was at school.

brillar--thanks a lot: i do appreciate your optimism on my behalf =) i'll try to keep my hopes up. but still, is this situation ridonkulous, or what?

This process is so ridiculously capricious. When people post in "chances post" it strikes me as dumb that people who purport to know so much about college admission would even venture a guess; having seen your stats (similar to mine) and ECs (also somewhat similar to mine [musical]), I would have thought you'd get in ED to Swat and I would get in ED I at Haverford (I was outright rejected but Hav doesn't send out a lot of deferrals). This process totally sucks but on the bright side, we're halfway to done with Feb and then all that's left to wait is March...

brillar, i know exactly how you felt, and your right. however, had i not heeded your advice about falling in love with my other schools, i would probably be absolutey miserable right now, so thank you :) moreover, i am so grateful for the great friends i have, they have made me feel so much better about everything today. anyway, i figure i'll unveil my stats now that it really doesn't apply to swat anymore..

GPA 91 (top 10%)
SATS: (probably what got me rejected ):
(btw i took them twice, took acts twice, in addition to sat princeton review prep course, i'm just an incredibly anxious test taker)

other: male, bi-racial (white and hispanic) i don't look hispanic though, too much irish and spanish blood
dual citizenship in US and in Mexico
swat pluses and minuses: minus: did not at least try to apply for diversity weekend (foolish mistake, i was very busy over the summer)
super, super , super competitive this year, obviously
plus:
-early decision 2
-demonstrated alot of interest in the school
did campus tour, info. session, had what i thought was a pretty good interview with an admissions officer, she said that i really seemed passionate (being a marine biologist, music, work ethic, and nordic skiing, said that if i was accepted school could fund me to start a ski club, which i defenitely would have tried).
-visited the campus a second time in november, stayed overnight, spoke with and later emailed two professors thanking them for allowing me to sit in on their classes. i had a very good experience
-emailed admissions regularly asking questions w/out being annoying or pushy.

essays and recs: main essay: i thought it was pretty good, talked about time i spent with my father seeing colleges
short answer: very good, discussed my passion for nordic skiing
swat supplement: page, double spaced. it was short and honest. i discussed my experience in prof. ? class and how i could apply my own lab knowledge to the sciences there.

well, everything happens for a reason. i still have to hear back from 9 more schools, so i'm not giving up yet :).

@dnalorkoi1, lolita: sorry to hear about that. You've just made me all the more nervous. They'll be emailing my decision sometime tomorrow or the day after.

@dnalorko1: Great attitude. I just hope I'll be able to put on a brave face when I get rejected(I'm almost sure of this).
btw, I looked at Swarthmore's common data set and found that Swarthmore does not care about any show of interest. Maybe that is why they havent replied to any of my 3 previous emails.:)

To all who got accepted: Congratulations I really hope I'll meet you guys in Swarthmore.;)

(<-- EDI deferral)

Congratulations to those fortunate enough to be accepted/deferred! I actually did not realize they deferred from the EDII pool, though. I wonder how it works. They told me that different people than read EDI apps read RD. Might this be true for you all as well?? Or I wonder if they permit you to send in supplemental materials like they did for us...hmm.

Best of luck!!

Lolita-- my stats resemble yours! 2250 as well, debate, loads of hard classes and extra curriculars. can you think of any liabilities or are you entirely shocked? I feel like I had a few, but the deferral was pretty disappointing anyway.
