ED: Quite good but not outstanding - 250 volunteer hours, some leadership, some awards, etc.

Q: My ranking might plummet to '35%' this semester and that worries me to sick. Considering the poor mid-year report, what are my ED2 and RD chances, please?

Thank you!

how the heck could you drop from 2% to 35%?!? are you failing classes?!?

Wow, talk about torpedoing yourself; you would have had a decent shot at the top schools otherwise. Vanderbilt really does not like downward trends, never mind 2% to 35%. I would absolutely suggest you apply EDII if you think you’ll be happy at Vanderbilt. I know people who had 35’s who got rejected around 4 years back, and that was when it was significantly easier to get into Vanderbilt. Currently Vanderbilt is tracking a 30% increase in applications this year in ED1, which is a good indicator for the applications it will receive overall. Vanderbilt’s application rate has been dropping like a ROCK the past 10 years, but it’s been able to maintain a very strong yield rate unlike other schools that lower their admissions rate for the sake of doing so, and hence have terrible yields: WashU

I read that you were considering applying EDII to Swarthmore or Vanderbilt. You should really do your research since they are incredibly different. Swarthmore (I have friends there) is kind of nerdy for the sake of being nerdy (in a good way) and Vanderbilt is kind of sporty. This is a video of Vanderbilt’s freshman orientation, which I think captures the atmosphere: [VIDEO: VUmazing Race | InsideVandy](<a href=“Inside Vandy: Vanderbilt University's student news source”>Inside Vandy: Vanderbilt University's student news source)

Either way, they are going to see your drop from 2% to 35% because either way your first semester of senior year transcript is sunk. One of my good friends goes to vandy and works with admissions. He told me that although vandy

Either way, they are going to see your drop from 2% to 35% because either way your first semester of senior year transcript is sunk. One of my good friends goes to vandy and works with admissions. He told me that although vandy looks holistically, grades are still very important because they show you over four years. Slacking senior year does NOT look good. You better be able to explain it away…
