On the Middlebury website, it says the Pre-Application is due by Dec. 15th, and the Application is due Jan. 15. Is the pre-app just the online information at the Middlebury website? Or does it include the common application + the essays?

Also does anyone have any opinions on sending test scores?

It says you are only required to send the ACT; or 3 exams in different areas.
Would it be wiser to send an ACT of 31 w/ subscores, or 740IIC, 650W(omg), 680 physics? And should a AP Physics score 4 be substituted for the 680?

Is there a point to sending SATI scores? (1370)

Thanks in advance, David.

they require only the pre-supplement app. by dec15th. the Sat scores are extremely important for admissions although not cruical. most ppl submit them. u cannot substitute AP physics for the SAT2. u already have math2c as a numerical subject. ditch the physics. that'll just be counted as extra.

Thanks for the quick reply, hit submit too early though. I guess I'll call them after taking a look at the Dec. SATIIs on the 17th.

In general Middlebury's instructions seemed more cryptic* than other colleges'. I guess in part b/c on their PDF they listed required forms as Pre-Application Supplement in one spot and then called it Pre-Application on the check list on the other end of the page.

They then say on the PDF to submit the ACT or 3 different exams which are the students choice. Which made it sound like they found the SATIs currently irrelevant.
Sounds like I should've just listed SATIs, SATIIs, & ACT w/ composite +subscores taking up all 10 slots.

*edit: probably only because I've put the other ones on the back burner for now

sorry, but i disagree with Arseus. I wouldn't submit an SAT I score of 1370. Only half of the students in the accepted class submitted SAT I scores last year, and the median for those who did submit was around 1430. A 1370 is competitive, but it won't get you in. Your ACT score of 31 looks much better, although your English/writing score could use some improvement.

Thanks arcadia, that was one of the reasons lurking in my head for not sending it in.

Magust, no difference between your ACT and SAT I scores. Midd's point is that you should submit the SAT I if you think it reflects well on you. Given the equivalence of your scores, it will neither hurt nor help you to submit the SAT I score.

Magust:
just submit everything and they'll pick the best scores for you. So don't sweat thinking about what to send in.
submit SAT I score of 1370; it won't hurt you. my brother had 1380 and he sent in every score and he got in.

I thought the deadline was Jan. 1...

Do you think it's okay if I send in my supplemental essay by itself AND, lol, is 881 words too long for that essay (the one about a moral dillemma, etc.)?

actually, isnt a 31 ACT a 1360 SAT 1....

well, Midd's mid-50% range for SAT I is 1370-1490, while the mid-50% range for ACT is 29-32. Looking at those numbers, you'll see that a 31 ACT looks much better (i.e., closer to the median) than a 1360 SAT I.

oooh...sorry about that, i really didnt know midrange, i just knew the conversion

THE CONVERSION IS CORRECT.

School manipulate their statistics to look better. They post their math and verbal ranges (example: 600-700 math 650-750 verbal). However, most of the total statistics are adding up these ranges, not the actually scores (example: Range is 1250-1450).

In reality, not everyone who got 75% math got 75% verbal and visa versa. The median scores are more towards the middle.

The ACT however, is reported using the normal statistics. If there is any variation outside of the conversion, it is due to the differences in the applicant pool from the midwest compared to the rest of the nation.

So use the conversion to figure out which is higher. If one isn't signifinantly lower, you may send in both. Likely, your high school may send in both as well.
