street.... send a tape/video of your band playing if you havent already done so

Hey I was deferred from the College, and I am pretty sure it was because of my testing. I sent them my ACT score of 30 and my 5 scores of 4 on my AP Exams. I did take some College Board Tests, but the only decent scores that I have are 710 Writing, 710 Math 2c, and 660 US History? Is it worth sending them these scores, provided that they will obviously see the other scores? Thanks.

shorty --> sent in TWO professionally studio mixed CDs as well as a show listing... I don't think M&T really cares haha...

haha aww man i didnt know it was for M & T.... that programs a lil too hardcore. my one friend whose a junior is in that and hes just a genius, so i dunno what to tell ya. did you ask to be considered for a single degree school?

1- Your GPA and rank should be damn good.
2- Your test scores should be strong, but dont flip out over less-than-spectacular scores (high 1300s/ high600s-low700s sat2s)
3- Get AMAZING recs, from teachers that know you well.
4- Have unique extracurriculars.
5- spend A LOT of time writing, rewriting, and revising your essays. As choco said, make your essays apply only to Penn. Unique details about the school will impress them.
6- Pray
7- Every time u see 11:11 on the clock, your wish should be "i wanna get into penn"

i did 2, 3, 4, 6, and 7 and got deferred

11:11? HAHAHAHAHA. wow.

I would think that #5 is most important, although I haven't applied yet (RD).

Rec's are probably less important than the other factors, no? GPA ought to be great, take hard classes, keep your rank up in the top percentages, but I guess its too late for that.

Embellish your strongest EC's. Don't worry about making them match your major if you really enjoy something. Add in things to your 'Why Penn' essay describing how you would actually contribute to Penn, like for example, joining Penn's student council or a political club. They want to know how you can be an active part of the studeny body. Your other essay ought to be well written I guess.

Hmmm. yeah, I finished my app and these are a few tips I picked up. I'm applying to M&T, which should be great fun.

Hey i have about a 3.87 at a pretty competitive prep school. I am trying to bumb it up to a 3.9 for mid trimester grades. At 3.87, im not even in the top 10%, but our school doesnt rank and Penn's app doesnt even ask for the counsellors to estimate. Do you think my relatively low GPA will affect me that much if a) they're app doesnt aks for a ranking, and b) its a tough school? Thank for the help.

Skier: I applied ED (accepted) and I certainly didn't have a stellar GPA by any means. It was fine (I think their avg. GPA for acceptees is like 3.8, and mine was well above that, but I don't have like a 5.0 or anything). But I do go to an incredibly intense private school (it's like nationally ranked as top 50), so I'm thinking they definitely took that into account. My dollop of advice is to, as antoinetheswan said, WORK YOUR ESSAYS. Ultimately, there are a lot of people who have great tests, gpas, recs, ec's, honors, grades, blah blah blah, but no two applicants will have the same twist on the essay...don't just write them for the sake of filling up space or trying to sound remotely intelligent; my focus on my application was on my essays, and I think it helped me a lot.

Thanks for the advice. I really did try my absolute hardest on my essays. I just finished them up tonight and am sending them off tommorow. I honestly have never worked so hard on a peice of writing in my life.

Here's my tip:

Figure out what your passions are and do things to follow those passions (like relevant internships, outside studies, etc). If you are very interested in something and show the admissions officers that you are willing to go further than what is required of you to persue that interest, it shows them that you are determined and will likely be a "mover and shaker" at Penn and after you graduate.

BTW, I was accepted ED to SEAS.
