EDers, why don't we help the RD people

no, streetlight was totally allowed to go EA MIT and ED M&T. If he had gotten into M&T, though, he would have had to withdraw his EA MIT app.

But now he got into MIT. yay!

Cool, I was mistaken then. I guess you just can't do ED and SCEA.

Congrats on MIT!

my gpa isn't great (bad 9th/10th grade) but i've gotten a 4.0uw this year so far (senior year i will have taken all honors/4 aps). our school doesn't rank, top 10 public in the nation though. i've got a very good engineering hook with national awards in robotics and a 1st place TSA national award for an electrical engineering project (optical heart rate monitor and recorder). I live 20 minutes from penn, my mom taught there for a while and both my step mom and step sister went there.
Also, I have had many leadership positions in many, many clubs, including starting the engineering club as a freshman, and starting FIRST robotics next year(planning it this year).

I don't know any of my scores yet, but considering my poor early gpa (upward trend), what are my chances?

Will doing reasearch at penn over junior year significantly help my cause?
I'm planing ED SEAS next year.

Yes, doing research at Penn will definately increase your chances. I did research at Penn during the summer of my Junior year into Senior year, and I just got in ED. :)

thanks, how did you get in the door to do research? what research did you do?

how about my chances overall?

ahhh penn is NOT ridiculous to get into... especially if you apply early. so many people here were insanely qualified and like doubting their chances. if you have good essays and have Penn anywhere on your resume youre pretty much in. like u didnt mention test scores or anything like that but then again u are from philly

thanks, shorty, i'm also from the main line:), wynnewood (lower merion hs)
so being from philly really helps that much?

being from philly DEFINITELY helps. A friend has told me that everyone in her high school (with good stats and such) was accepted to philly. About 5-6 pple, and that's from ONE school. I think it has something to do with Penn's need for community support.

Too bad I'm not from philly :(

philly suberbs count, right?
yea, 11 people got in early from my school.
if a step-parent(and step-sister) went to penn does that count for legacy?
does anyone recommend or not recommend Penn SEAS?

yeah im from malvern... well if youre in the actual CITY i think it really helps. if youre from LM hs then it depends on how many kids usually get into penn each year... at gvhs its like 2-4 but i remembear hearing that LM sends a good amount... if you look at the geographic distribution of the current freshman class, more are from PA than like anywhere else. if youre from around here, your why penn essay should be considerably stronger cause youve had more opportunities to visit campus, do research/classes, and find out what u like about philly. cause a third of my essay was all about wanting to help out those underprivileged west philly kids..... yeahhhhhhhhh

penn SEAS isnt ranked insanely highly like if you really LOVE penn and you simply refuse to go anywhere else but your interests are in engineering, then go for it. otherwise, i think the best way to do seas is thru M & T. ill mention that i think the towne building is a lil dated and it personally depresses me when im there haha but the engineering library is sort of cozy....

thanks again, shorty, did you apply early/get in?
is it okay that my gpa was bad 9/10 year and good 11/12?
will my hook also help a lot?

sorry if i sound a bit misinformed, but what is m&t?

going to the college next year. i dunno your definition of "bad" for your first two years of hs, but like if it significantly lowers your class rank/cumulative gpa to the point where other ED applicants from your school are obviously a lot stronger than u, than theyre the ones who will get in. doing penn research will help a lot in conjunction w/ good sats, essays, recs, etc.

yeah you are misinformed haha.
management and technology.
joint wharton/engineering degree basically

there's no class rank at my school, but my cumulative gpa, although not bad, will not be top.

About 40-45 kids from my school applied to Penn, 7 got in

you know, if they only told me half the stuff in this thread when I entered high school, i would have been in so much better shape. you know what i mean?

yeah. heck, if i had known half this stuff just last year or something (then i would've panicked a lot more)
i thot i was in good shape but def. not

Thanks for the tips guys, it really helps.
