I've decided to apply to Tufts ED - but I'm still not to clear on the difference between EDI and EDII? I'm going premed, and HOPE to attend their honors program next summer.

And also... chances? I'm worried about my GPA... my grades freshman/sophmore year were awful [3.3/3.1] but junior year shot up my GPA. I'm hoping to also send in my first term/semester grades with a higher GPA, but I'm still not to sure how it works...

GPA: 3.43 uw/~3.9+ w [if I maintain my junior streak (4.0), it'd be a 3.6 if I include my first term senior grades]

SATI: 2200 [720v 700m 720w]

SATII:
- Chemistry 780
- MathIIC 720
- French 770

APs:
- Chem 5
- Euro 4

Also taking AP French, AP Eng, AP Enviromental and AP Calc AB senior year. Our school ONLY has 10 AP classes, and only let us take them after taking the regular honor class. Will also be submitting an art portfolio along with app (suggested?)

ECs:
- community service 350+ hours [internships, hospital work]
- student gov't
- ultimate frisbee 9-11
- art club 9-11
- community service organizer 9, 11
- m.o.s.t [community service club] 11
- art/portfolios in national art competitions [golden globe, etc]

Nothing too spectacular, unfortunately =/ But I want to go THIS badly, so any advice on raising my chances of getting in?

ED 1 is due in November, and ED 2 is due later. If you get rejected from somewhere else ED, you can do Tufts ED2 and still know in February. They're both binding.

My parents keep insisting for me to apply EDI (more pressure on me though) because they believe that Tufts will think I'm more determined to get in and that the acceptance rates are signifigantly higher.

I have never seen any data that proves applying EDI is advantagous. Your parents may have a point and there might be other factors:

Is the applicant pool stronger in ED II because many applicants were rejected or deferred from their ED I or EA school?
2.What if they receive an abnormally high # of applications in ED I, do they accept more at the expense of the EDII candidates whose numbers are unknown during EDI?
3.I have heard that WUSTL and Emory claim that there is no difference in applicant pool or acceptance rates between EDI and ED II

Whether you apply in either ED round you are demonstrating strong interest in Tufts.

Somebody out in CC land must have an idea to resolve this question.

When I was applying to college 4 years ago, the Tufts acceptance rate for ED was somewhere around 40%. If you applied RD, the rate was around 20% or so. I think that if you really like a school, like I did with Tufts, applying ED can really help, because schools want someone who wants to go there. I have no idea if ED1 is more advantageous than ED2, but I feel like the acceptance rates between the two ED rounds would be pretty similar, they just offer another option for applying to the school and showing interest.
