Did the number of applicants for EDI increase or decrease for the Class of 2011? Also, did the percent accepted change at all this year?
Thanks.

Hmm, I haven't seen any statistics. I know that alums and interviewers sometimes receive stats sheets (by e-mail or snail mail) after each round of admissions -- would any of you have gotten one you could share with us?

I was hoping that the Tufts Daily would publish an article on the Early Decision results, but I don't think I saw one. It is very possible that I missed it though.

No, I didn't see one either -- yet. The ED I decisions were mailed out during final exams or Reading Period (the days before finals) here at Tufts, and the Daily stops printing for the semester before exams start. I will write to my friends on the Daily (I used to be an editor there) and suggest they look into writing a piece on it. Perhaps one on both ED I and ED II (as those decisions will be coming out quite soon).

I don't know the answer to that, but I suspect the number may have increased. D's interviewer seemed disappointed that she didn't apply ED ... seemed to be intimating that there would not be a lot of available slots RD for even a student of her strong stats. Hard to say, though, for sure.

Update: I wrote to the editor-in-chief of the Daily, and she said an article on ED is in the works. They're waiting -- as I expected -- for the ED II results.

I read an article that said ED I applications went down around 5%.

Where did you read that? It seems unlikely to me that if no Tufts sources -- student newspaper, admissions office, or otherwise -- have reported on it, that an outside source would have accurate information. There was an article written in another school's newspaper (Wesleyan or Bucknell or something) that cited incorrect -- READ: completely infactual -- data about Tufts ED numbers this year; as well as those of several other universities and LACs.

Do schools have a number cutoff re: the number of students they will admit ED each year. or do they play it by ear depending on number of applicants?

there was a rumor at my school saying applicant numbers were down... however i dont think this was based on anything substantial

It was a Williams article, it was widely interpreted to mean that the Wesleyan and Tufts EDI stats were down this year. But, I know in the case of Wesleyan that it wasn't true, so you could be right:
http://www.williamsrecord.com/wr/?view=article§ion=news&id=8392

^ ^ ^ Yes, that's the article I meant.

Besides that, not one mention has been made of Tufts ED numbers. So I think if anyone is claiming they went up, went down, or stayed the same, they're just basing it on hearsay or making assumptions of their own.
