Hey! What do you think my chances are at Pomona EDII? Thanks!

-I'm a very strong writer and am getting great recommendations
-2 of my cousins went to Claremont Colleges (Scripps and Harvey Mudd)

200+ hours of community service within the last year

If someone could let me know what you think my chances are, that would be great!! Also, what do you think my chances would be RD at the other Claremont colleges? Thanks!!

If you write a good essay for Pomona you have a shot. Pomona is a hard one to predict but they like good essays and good writing. CMC is likely for you as well if you stress your leadership. Pitzer you would get great merit. I know nothing about Harvey Mudd. Good luck- our forum here has been doing very well with ED at Pomona!!

I know my essay is strong (it's about my political activism)- my prof at UC Berkeley helped me edit it and we agreed that it's very good, and it reflects my passion and leadership, which is what I really want to emphasize. Do you think that that could help me overcome my low (by Pomona standards) GPA?

I think you are just fine. My EC's were all over the place and I got in, but you seem to have a true passion for politics which will probably help you out the most. Good luck!! I'm amazed by what you've accomplished!

From what I've read, applying ED is akin to adding 100 points to your SATs. Also, it demonstrates that Pomona is your first choice. Doing well in college-level courses during the summer shows that you can handle college material. What's your class rank?

Thanks so much for all of the support! I think I'm going to go for it!

LittleMother- My school doesn't rank, which is probably to my advantage since it's so competitve, but on the other hand, it' s hard to gauge where I am in relation to my peers. I'd say somewhere in the second decile if I were estimating.

leftyleftist, I asked because if you calculate your AI (academic index), it could be to your advantage if your class rank were high, i.e., your teachers grade hard. Definitely, go for it! You have nothing to lose and everything to gain! Good luck!

Pomona really likes students that challenge themselves so that is more imp then GPA. Applying early gives you a slight edge but not as much at Pomona as other schools. You have solid exracurriculars and leadership so you look good. I do know of kids with 1500+ SAT scores that did not get in even with coach's support because they didn't take challenging classes. Best of luck and let us know how it goes!

Thanks to all for the support! I really didn't have a clue as to whether or not it was worth it to apply. I sent in the common app last night, and I'm going to send in the supplement over the weekend! :-)

Just out of curiousity, does anyone have a sense as to how easy it might be for me to get into Scripps? I'm definitely applying, and I was kind of assuming it would be a match for me but not too difficult, but I'm not sure...

Definite (if there is such a thing) for Scripps. Make sure you visit. My D stayed over night and then scratched it from her list. It is a great school academically with the best grounds and dorms of any of the Claremonts.

Wow, I had no idea that getting into Scripps would be that safe! I knew my GPA was on the low end and that my test scores are on the high end, so I wasn't sure how that would ultimately balance out. That's really comforting... I saw pictures of Scripps and was blown away- it's gorgeous! I'll be visiting Pomona, Clareont, and Scripps (the ones I'm applying to) in late January or early February- my cousin who went to Scripps lives in the San Diego area and said she'd love to show me around the campuses, so that should be fun and a good experience. :-) I'm not as into it as I am into Pomona, but I figure if I can at least be at a Claremont college, whichever one that may be, I'll be able to have that experience...
