EDII Countdown

oh my gosh... i am FREAKING out!! my mail comes late but it should be here soon... i am NOT confident at all ughhhh sooo nervous

i'm not in =( congratulations to all of you who got in though! i'm appealing!! lol

My D has applied RD so she still has to wait awhile. While we are waiting it would be helpful to know what stats you all have, those that have been accepted as well as those who were not. That input would give us a little insight into what might happen for those waiting for RD. Would you be willing to share?

You can call starting on Monday

Status: Accepted
GPA: 3.76 UW/ 4.0 W
ACT: 32
Class Rank: Top 15%
Courses: 8 APs, 12 Honors
ECs: lots and lots of community service, lots of music accomplishments, second degree black belt tae kwon do, published writer, science awards, etc.
Essays: I spent a lot of time on them so they turned out quite nicely.
Hook: Asian-American; I have been in touch with the Associate Professor of Viola at Vandy.

Not the greatest of stats, but I'm just very happy to be in :]

lylbeachbabee- Don't give up. If Vanderbilt really is the place you want to be, do everything in your power to make that happen. Good luck.

sure.. i'd be happy to post my stats!! i'm stealing avant-garde's format.. and by the way -- thanks for the words of encouragement. vanderbilt truly is where i want to be so i'm going to do anything i can to get in! does anyone know if vandy defers? or was i flat-out denied? my letter didn't say anything about being deferred... ughh

Status: Not in.. (deferred or rejected? i don't know)
GPA: 3.8 UW/ 4.2 W
ACT: 31
Class Rank: Top 15% (but huge upward trend)
Courses: my school doesn't offer too many APs or anything.. i had AP chem last year and i'm taking AP biology, AP govt, and AP calc this year.. on the app it couldn't be considered "most rigorous" because i take honors english instead of AP.
ECs: hundreds of awards for competitive dancing (including big ones like national dancer of the year), a couple hundred community service hours, religious education teacher, youth group coordinator, altar server, nhs, president of science club/doctors of tomorrow, history club, florida math league, attended nylf/medicine, attending national young leaders conference, excellence in community service award, work: dance teacher (10+ hours a week)
Hook: i thought all of my dance stuff would be a hook. it takes up so much of my time (my classes themselves are over 30 hours a week) not even counting when i teach dance. and i have so many big awards! i really tried to show that was my passion in one of my essays, and i thought my "why vanderbilt" essay was really good. it just sucks to spend all that time working so hard throughout high school, on the application, etc just to have it not be good enough for my top-choice school. well anyways, life goes on!! congrats everyone! =)

pasch...monday is a holiday

I'm sure you can still contact the Office of Undergraduate Admissions and they'll let you know.

Thanks, and congrats on your acceptance! I've heard SO many rejections this early decision round.

female

GPA- unweighted-3.8, weighted-4.1
rank-top 5%
SAT-1990: CR-680, M-650, W-660
SAT II: Bio-770, Lit-690

AP's: 3, Bio, Chem, English.
Honors: physics.

EC's:
Varsity Tennis 4yrs., participation in numerous tournaments.
Peer tudor-3yrs.
work experience.-4yrs.
Some other clubs and stuff.
plus+: I think my essay really kicked butt!

I forgot.

I visited twice. Once to do the whole visit/tour thing. The second to spend the night in the dorm. I think flying from cali. to Vandy twice really showed a commitment.

nevermind... hahah

nicole07..
when you say that you've heard so many rejections this round, what do you mean? were they all qualified people?

i'm still trying to decide whether or not i should appeal the decision. i wouldn't even consider it if i didn't think i deserved to go there or whatever, but i really think i do and i know that i could add so much to the school. but it also seems wrong to appeal something that is obviously not meant to be. advice anyone??

oh and congratulations waiterock!

I mean I've only seen people's scores and such so maybe there is a good reason why they got rejected.

Also, maybe the applicant pool was really tough this round. I'm not really sure. I've just heard about three people who I thought had a solid chance get rejected.

Was there something on your application that was a weak point?

My adcom rep person said I can call tomorrow. Should I? Is it a good sign or neutral sign they said I can call? I'm thinking about just waiting for the mail to arrive since I've already waited so long.

my only "weak" point was my class rank... freshman year i wasn't placed into any honors classes and it's literally impossible to be in the top 10% in my school without having honors during freshman year -- my class is too small so w/ about 30 taking honors freshman year they take up all of the top 10% spots (which is 20 people). throughout the four years my courses have gotten progressively harder and i've gone from an 80 something class rank up to 26th which puts me in the top 14%. while it's an upward trend, i'm still not in the top 10% and i'm not going to be.... which i know is looked down upon.

ohhh and about calling... i would say it's a totally neutral thing. i'm sure that anyone can call tomorrow.

i decided i probably won't call unless the letter doesn't come tuesday. i dont know. i dont want to be rejected twice.

i would probably contact someone in admissions to see what appealing involves and if you are eligible to do so. make sure to post what they say. i plan to appeal just because i am really passionate about vandy and it is truly where i want to be for the next 4 years.

good luck to you!

lylbeachbabee, I'm sorry to hear that, but like everyone already said, if you can, and really feel you want to be there, then it doesn't hurt to appeal. If it doesn't work out then you can know that you did whatever you could and I'm sure you'll be happy wherever you end up...but maybe it would change things, definitely worth a shot, I think. Certainly with your 31 act and upward trend and things I would have thought you had a pretty good chance, it's just sooo ridiculously competative. It was funny, my Brown interviewer actually called the admissions process a "crapshoot"...that broke the ice a little lol.

Nicole, it seems like you should definitely get it by tuesday...maybe call then if you don't get it. Good luck, again, and to anyone else who hasn't heard yet!

I really think I should be at Vanderbilt also...
Can anyone explain the appeals process to me?
Is it even worth it?
I am willing to do anything and everything to be at Vandy next year.
