Why can’t we edit our own posts? It seems that we may only edit our posts if they are recent, or something like that.
There’s a time limit on editing, apparently. Why there’s a time limit, I’m not exactly sure, because it would probably cut down on repeat threads.
Posts are editable for a few minutes after posting to correct typos. In long experience with forums, we’ve learned that a longer editing period lets some members go back and change posts after others have replied, resulting in threads that don’t make sense. This is particularly true if a later poster points out a flaw in an earlier post.
What about the circumstances in which you notice a typo past the time limit? Is there a way to contact a mod, or should one just grin and bear it?
From the “Help & Rules” section on the Main Discussion menu:
"Can My Posts Be Deleted?
Posts are editable for a brief period following posting to allow correction of spelling errors, formatting, etc. After that, members may not edit their own posts. This prevents one member from editing an earlier post in a thread, rendering comments by others irrelevant or seemingly inaccurate. Similarly, we cannot delete posts upon request. Doing so would destroy the integrity of our archive and consume a huge amount of manpower. Therefore, please do not post personal data or other information that could prove to be a problem later."
anduilukr, you should just grin and bear it. The volunteer moderators get enough reports of problem posts. They can’t spend time fixing typos.
